They have overturned this in many places now. It is NOT the dogs but the owners that need to be looked at.

Dumb law, bad owners not bad animals

In this day and age your antiquated breed bylaw should be stopped! It’s how the animal is raised not the breed!

Breed discrimination is such a backwards way of thinking. You wouldn’t say of an infant being born that it was automatically a bad seed just because of its parents or family lineage - we all know that a child is often a product of the way they are brought up and the environment they are raised in. Why can’t people see it’s the same for dogs? Problematic dogs are a reflection of their owners, NOT the breed as a whole.

We live at the other end of the province. Thankfully we have no such bylaws. Thank you for standing up to protect your family member. I offer my full support in this battle ahead of you. Through this stressful time please remember there are many of us supporting you near and far.

Discrimination is not good at all. Please do not separate this family and their pet.

The owners raising of the dog controls if it's violent or not, the breed has little to no affect. If so ban chihuahuas, I've never met a more violent breed then the 6 of those ive met.

There are no such things as bad breeds only bad dog owners. Change this bylaw!

Do I even need to justify why this is absolutely wrong? LOL

BSL is racisim for animals and it needs to stop

If this dog has been with its family uneventfully for nine years this bylaw should not be applied in this instance. Breed specific laws are not sensible in general. Often times the smaller breeds, for example, are more liable to bite. Overall most animals within a breed are good but every breed has bad eggs and more importantly bad owners. “Just because” seems to be very cruel in this case.

BSL has no place, anywhere. Responsible owners are the basis of safe dogs, not their breed.

This is absurd. Montreal did it, but thankfully realized their mistake and retracted the bylaw. I hope Guysborough County does the same. Very embarrassed to say I am from here.

This is ridiculous. There are no aggressive animals; just irresponsible dog owners. Stop discriminating against this breed.

Again it is the way to raise your dog that has a out come on how they will act... love and kindness never makes a dog angry. Not the breed or their looks... shouldn't be band for his breed...

Ban bad owners not innocent breeds

It's been shown time and time again that BSL does not work to prevent dog bites. And ripping a 9-year-old dog with no history of aggression from the only family he's ever known is just cruel and unreasonable.

Dogs have feelings too. They would never understand “bylaws”. All you would be doing is causing emotional and stressful harm to the animal.

This is absurd. Montreal did this and realized how wrong it was and retracted the bylaw. I hope Guysborough does the same.
