This dog has clearly been part of this family for a long time .If he appears aggressive he is only protecting what he should be his family .Mine would do the same and she is a chocolate lab .Leave the dog alone .

Don’t blame the breed! Blame the owners!

This is not fair, these cases should be assorted by aggressiveness of dogs not by DNA identification! Repeal this by-law!

BSL is one of the stupidest legislations around regarding dogs. Any dog can be trained to be aggressive regardless of breed, I've seen golden retrievers display more aggression than a bully breed. All dogs, like all people should be judged on their character (behaviour) not on their breed. You are one of the only locations with BSL remaining in place, their is a reason everyone else has done away with it. You do not get to tear a family apart and take a childs dog away because of a preconceived notion that bully breeds are all bad.

This is ridiculous. This day and age?! Whoever put this is motion deserves to be locked in a room, tied up, with a bunch of chihuahuas. Yknow, true aggressive breeds.

Breed specific legislation is archaic and unacceptable. Scientific data proves it is ineffective at preventing dog bites . You should not judge a dog based on its breed. Please end this unacceptable and archaic legislation. Judge the deed, not the breed.

Typically the owner not the dog!! Time to re-educate the dummies that come up with these types of bylaws.

Do you judge all people due to the actions of one? Do not judge all dogs due to the actions of a few. This dog is a family pet. Do not take him away from those who love him. To me, that is abuse

Dogs are family, it is absolutely terrible that you can’t keep your family because they could potentially be dangerous. It’s like raising a child you raise them right. How can you ask a family to give up a member of their family? This is so wrong

This is just awful! Breed specific bylaws are incredibly short sighted and unjust. This dog is nine years old as well and you want to rehome him though has has never ever caused a problem. He’s pretty well a senior!

I am a veterinarian, dog trainer and behaviour enthusiast; breed specific legislation does nothing to reduce the frequency or severity of dog bites/attacks.

These type of 'breed specific' legislation are ridiculous. No particular breed has any more proclivity to violence than another. It is the OWNERS that cause the bad behaviours. Admittedly some breeds have greater ability to inflict serious damage if they attack, but a well trained dog will NOT attack unprovoked. A dog that's spent 9 years with a family is not going to harm anyone unless seriously provoked.

If the dog is already nine years old and hasn't attacked anyone unwarranted then chances are it is not going to . This dog probably only has a few good years left and should be left with its family. Unless the owners are exploiting a trait (such as aggressiveness) for inhumane purposes then there shouldn't be a problem. This is when you make an assessment. Taking a blood test is inconclusive on predicting a dogs behavior. In this case, the best predictor would be the dogs past and current behavior. I have traits of aggressiveness and they can be expressed in many ways...such as competitiveness during competition. Aggressiveness does not always equal violence.

This is a ridiculous bylaw that needs to be abolished. There is no breed that could be deemed more dangerous than a human. The human that abuses and neglects these poor animals. Love and care what's needed for pets and if they can provide this, there's no way they should lose ownership over something so trivial as breed.

BSL is BS end this blatant discrimitory act. If a 9 year old dog hasn't attacked anyone he's not going to

Ridiculous by-law. Dogs should be monitored on a case by case situation. Dogs are not born to be bad, they are brought up to be. After 9 years and no problems do you really think this dog who has a good 3-4 years left is honestly gonna change at this point? It's unfortunate to see such backward thinking. I hope the family is able to get there family member a safe spot until they figure this out.

Absolutely ridiculous by-law. The dog has not attacked anyone. Also, all dogs are capable of attacking if not given proper training and care by their owner
