I don't go to chiles anymore (bless) so I can only imagine how many hillbillies go around sporting these. Little history lesson: this version of the flag that you see most often today is actually not from the civil war, but was used most prominently to perpetuate segregation and rose in use and popularity as a protest against integration. So, yes, historically the flag was used as an anti-black symbol. It doesn't matter what "it means to you", if I punch you in the throat and say I meant it as a sign of respect, that's not how you would take it, regardless of my denial. This flag is a symbol of racism and will continue to be that, no matter how much you claim it isn't. Ban this flag from chiles plz

So here's the deal. Y'all think we are rascist for flying a flag that slavery didn't exist under??? Slavery existed only under the American flag. This flag is one of many battle flags used in the war itself. This flag simply represents southern pride and heritage not rascism and slavery. To all of you who think this flag should come down I personally don't see why it's any different than having a sticker on your car that says celebrat diversity or coexist becauee they are all symbols of what you believe in even if one might just be bigger and better than the other.

Regardless of what you want to say this flag stands for (hate and racism) the Confederates lost the war; because of this they are required to do away with all of their policies they were fighting for and surrender to the opposing side (the government of the United States). They should be required to stop flying the banner of their cause, it shows blatant resistance to what the government has decided. On top of that, it's simply not appropriate for a school. Students are not allowed to walk around wearing revealing clothes, sagging pants, hats, or sunglasses, because they are distractions. That flag is bound to incite conflict, possibly violence and could keep potent learning from taking place, therefore it has no place on school grounds.

The confederacy flag stands for keeping slavery alive. The meaning of the civil war changed, so did "south power". It stands for racism. It's not acceptable.

The confederate flag is purely southern pride. You can look up any pole on it and the majority of Americans see it as that. It represents the black and white men that fought and died underneath that flag. The brave black men that died under it were not slaves but free men. Don't beleave me do alittle research on it. I can see how you could call any of the three national flags of the csa racist because of what happened under them. The battle flag flew over many men that died both black and white all free and flying it is in remembrance of them and showing respect and your pride for being southern. Please stop making it something it is not.

Avoid wars you can't win and never raise your flag for an asinine cause like slavery.

Honestly it's super hateful to do this, if you consider what it represents. In other states this would never even be considered for a second as appropriate

I just hope you're ok with the fact you're "southern heritage" encouraged the oppression & degradation of people simply based on a trait that was out of their control.
