Stop Additional Marijuana Retail Stores And Grow Operations In Glenwood Springs

Facts: 1) 2.1 million tourists visit Glenwood Springs every spending most their time and leisure as pedestrians shopping our stores and eating at our restaurants. The tourists base primarily consist of families and not individuals 2) Most purchases of Marijuana are a planned purchase because it requires cash. It is not conducive to impluse buying or shopping. 3) The DDA - Downtown Development Authority - and its local business partners are spending a lot of time and money in creating an inviting, pleasurable pedestrian area in the downtown core. This is long term thinking for a long term impact. 4) 3 new pot shops = 5 within two square blocks. Comments and Considerations: 1) I'm not sure how many new, family friendly local businesses will be interested in investing time and money into an area saturated with pot shops. 2) Two years ago, while working at the Youth Recovery Center at Valley View hospital, a teenage client asked me, "Hey Kevin, what's up with all of the pot shops in Glenwood Springs?" 3) I understand the attraction to the tax revenue from the sales of marijuana, but can't they be placed in outside perimeter of the city, or in west GWS near the grow operations? 4) Are we willing to risk tourism dollars and the investment of many small business owners for 6 pot shops in the downtown core? 5) I believe we need to check our motives. Is there "a need and a want" from the citizens of GWS? Thank you, Kevin A. Brady

We already have 6 or 7 shops, and I think that's more than enough. I would hope that anyone coming here wants to see made in Colorado shops... NOT pot shops. I am strongly opposed to the idea that we allow any more facilities into our area. PLEASE do not allow this!!! Keep GWS a family friendly town, a wonderful representation of what brought my husband and I to Colorado in the first place over 20 years ago. My parents brought the 3 of us kids here in 1957 for the first time, and this state has been THE BEST ever since! DO THE RIGHT THING AND LET THE SHOPS ALREADY HERE BE THE END OF IT!

We have so many marijuana stores all ready, we DO NOT NEED MORE! They all detract from the historical, family-friendly, tourist town that we are promoting.

If a person is having difficulty purchasing marajuana in Glenwood Spring, they need to walk one block in either direction.

I agree that we do not need more marijuana retail shops nor additional grow operations in town. The present amount of marijuana shops is enough and it would be imprudent to allow the City to continue to allow these shops when and wherever they want to be. I feel this request is not one based on the legality, importance or validity of the marijuana industry but one based on prudent City management. Please do not allow our nationally recognized family friendly tourist destination become the nationally recognized mountain town where you can buy pot on every corner.

I have to ask myself, what message are we sending to young people if there are numerous marijuana buisnesses throughout their neighborhoods and downtown. We need responsible growth of the marijuana industry that supports the rest of our community.

We're going to end up with more marijuana shops that liquor stores in downtown. Makes no sense. Liquor stores at least have to prove a need in the neighborhood.

A city of our size has more than enough medical and recreational stores. I don't think we need any more.

Chadwick Building downtown at 8th and Cooper Kris and Glenn Chadwick We are very opposed to allowing additional pot shops in downtown Glenwood. It presents the wrong image of our town. It is also inappropriate for kids, and Glenwwod has lot of families that live and visit here. Please do not allow.

i believe no town needs this many marijuana stores. It's legal now, but we don't need to offer it on every corner.

The current demographics of Glenwood do not support the density of retail and grow operations proposed.

In the interest of tourism, I believe this is the wrong type of business to place into our downtown core. The nature of this type of business will draw it's own crowd and does not need to rely on "walk by" impulse traffic. I believe it would detract from the more family friendly attractions our community has to offer.
