Stop Private Jet Expansion at Hanscom or Anywhere

I remember when Hanscom belonged to the Air Force and we had jets and sonic booms overhead pretty regularly in Chelmsford. The long-ago transition to a commercial venture does not give it the right to decimate green space in suburbs that need to preserve it. Not to mention significant noise and pollution.

As a resident who has been doing everything I can to reduce my own carbon footprint (got rid of our cars and fully insulated our apartment 15 years ago, limiting meat consumption, reducing air travel, etc.) and am now taking advantage of the incentives to shift away from fossil fuel powered heat and appliances (spending thousands of dollars of our own money on top of the rebates we are receiving in order to shift to a renewable energy powered home), I am livid to learn about this proposal to triple the private jet capacity at Hamscom Field that is projected to have a "resultant greenhouse gas emission rate cancelling out the climate benefit of about a quarter of all the solar PV installations in Massachusetts", "will benefit only the ultra wealthy" and will be exempt from property tax. We will never reach the climate goals that are essential to preserving a habitable planet if we continue to make incomprehensible and unjust decisions like this. We should be following the example of countries (France, the Netherlands) who are banning private jets and imposing high taxes on their fuel.

We MUST STOP AND COMPLETELY HALT both expansion at Hanscom specifically for private and other jets and across Mass. and elsewher. Gov. Healey you committed to support and advocate for climate justice. Stand behind that commitment by blocking this expansion, slapping massive surcharges on fuel for private jets and blocking priileges at Mass airports. Thank you. Our children's children's children's children's children's children -- and just our children -- will lie with the consequences otherwise. THanks you

Massachusetts needs to work harder to actually put into action what the leaders of the state claim to want in regards to fighting climate change.

I live in Bedford, I am happy to have the Air Force doing their operations sometimes but I don’t want to have every jet flying over my house just because it is convenient for rich guys.
