Unfortunately, media resonded to this request as disruptive and rasicm. Besides, how would you gurantee those who has been already came back to Canada not to go to school?! This virus may not show any symptoms for 2 weeks but it can be transmitted (look at the case happened in Germany).

I strongly advise students self isolated within 15 days who return back from any part of China, including Hong Kong.

Keep children at home for several weeks and instead teachers feed them with online studies/activities.

I made a suggestion which wouldn't be offensive to any group. I understand that we can wait and cross our fingers that it ends at 3 cases and I truly hope so. But in my opinion, wearing masks is not racism and if someone feel safer that way then they must be allowed and not getting critisized unless there would be a clear solution in place which there isn't! I've seen so many people wearing masks all across Canada for many years when even Coronavirus wasn't discovered. It's a free country and we are not allowed to judge people based on what they eat or wear so it shouldn't become a problem now! Good luck!

Open your eyes and read the majority of the comments here, they are racist. Words like chink, dirty Chinese and oriental are being thrown around. People are calling for the quarantine of ALL Chinese students regardless if they have been to China or not, just because they are Chinese. Or the quarantine of Chinese people traveling from China as of non-Asians traveling from China are ok because they are not Chinese. People have every right to be concerned for their family’s health but that doesn’t mean they should be spewing racist garbage. And by the way, John Konrad is right about the flu, do your research instead of getting your facts from Instagram or Facebook.

Plenty of children go to school un-vaccinated from the flu. That disease kills thousands each year. Only three people have tested positive for Coronavirus in Canada, and none have died. Should we shut down schools for the flu as well? You can't just claim not to be a racist, than judge someone's health based on their place of origin. You're making a judgment about them, regardless of any facts. Saying you are not a racist is easy... Not being a racist is another story.

You want to have schools shut down for several weeks, have children's education disrupted, not to mention have school boards monitor someone whose only act was travelling from China, all while there have only... been. Three. Cases. Just 3 people. More people go through Toronto-Pearson in a minute than that. The reason why I bring up the flu is because that is the better understanding for the public right now. The flu is far more dangerous currently... It has killed, and it will kill. No one has yet died of the Coronavirus in Canada, and it is unlikely to come to the York region. The Flu has, is, and will. You cannot start asking for aggressive efforts to be taken in light of Coronavirus, unless you are willing to accept those same efforts to happen with the flu. And in the case of the flu... I think most people would agree, it would be ridiculous to start asking we cancel school and quarantine people for it. So why is it any less ridiculous for the Coronavirus? As for whether this is legitimate... I'm sorry, but it isn't. Even if it isn't in your heart to hate people of a different race, this petition is having that affect, they feel that hate regardless. Just look in the comments at all the anti-Chinese sentiment here and tell me this hasn't inspired racist folks. Children are the most vulnerable and easily get sick and pass on sickness with one another and then to their family members at home. This has nothing to do with race, it’s common sense. If my child was sick, I would not let him infect others. If my child was not properly vaccinated, he would not be allowed at school. Why should someone who’s potentially sick, visited/travelled to an infected area be allowed at school to potentially infect other children and teachers thereby affecting our communities? I’m a concerned parent, not a racist. I hope common sense prevails.

Mr. Konrad, What people are asking on here is a better way of precaution and I'm not against the general flu shot. However, precaution is not perception. Media shows a response from certain groups that our request is not legit and may translate as rasicm which is based on a certain group's perception. I'm not suggesting to do anything to any group of people to control the virus. I'm simply suggesting to cancel schools for several weeks and instead teachers feed children through online activities until the public have a better understanding of this virus in Canada. I'm sure you understand that small children cannot determine between healthy and sick.
