Stop the Potential spreading of the Novel coronavirus in schools of York Region, Ontario

John, What people are asking on here is a better way of precaution and I'm not against the general flu shot. However, precaution is not perception. Media shows a response from certain groups that our request is not legit and may translate as rasicm which is based on a certain group's perception. I'm not suggesting to do anything to any group of people to control the virus. I'm simply suggesting to cancel schools for several weeks and instead teachers feed children through online activities until the public have a better understanding of this virus in Canada. I'm sure you understand that small children cannot determine between healthy and sick.

The virus doesnt show symptoms early in the infectious period and people can transmit. So school boards should not base their decisions based on symptoms alone. Even one child's life is important hope they know that

Again, there have only been 3 people in Canada who have tested positive for the Coronavirus. That is 3 out of thousands who have traveled from China this year. The flu has infected and killed far more people this season. 8200 in the United States. Shouldn't that be a bigger priority than something that has yet to even kill those it has infected here in Canada?

Just because you are of a different race doesn't mean you can't do a racist thing. Presuming someone's health status, while not being a doctor, based solely on where they came from, isn't very informed or decent to do. You are absolutely correct that viruses do not care about race! But there have only been three cases of Coronavirus in Canada thus far. 3. That's three out of literally thousands that have traveled here from China this past month. Meanwhile, the flu has killed 8200 people in the United States this season, and will likely kill similar numbers here in Canada. It often kills those who are most vulnerable, like children or those who are immune-compromised. If you are really concerned about your child's health, you should get them vaccinated for the flu. Or if they cannot be vaccinated, you yourself should get vaccinated, alongside your sister. You will be doing much more to protect your community rather than if you simply judge someone's health based on where they came from.

You are presuming someone's health based upon where they come from. There have only been 3 people in Canada who have caught this disease. Going to China should not automatically put you under suspicion. If you are really concerned about vulnerable people, keep in mind that those people are often of greatest danger from the flu, which has already killed several thousand people in the United States this season. Do them a favor and get yourself vaccinated from the flu. It'll do more to protect those people, and no one will ask if it's racist.

You should pay attention to what I'm saying Sam, I'm not asking people to get flu shots to protect them against Coronavirus, I'm saying that the flu will kill more people in Canada this year than the Coronavirus and they should get vaccinated for that instead. There are no cases of Coronavirus in the York region, there will likely BE no cases of Coronavirus in the York region. But there will be cases of the flu in York region. And it will kill people. So why not do yourself a favor, and get yourself vaccinated for the thing that will harm people, instead of panicking about a scary virus you saw on the news. A flu vaccination won't protect you from the Coronavirus, but it will protect you from something that is actually a public health issue. And while I'll say I haven't called anyone here outright as a racist, I will say that if indeed you feel offended by someone calling you out for presuming someone's health status based solely on their travel itinerary... Maybe that's on you? Maybe, don't do that thing which is racist?

More people in Canada will die of the flu than of the Corona Virus this year. Does this mean we should force everyone entering and leaving our country to submit to enforced quarantine and involuntary lab tests?

Consider these facts. -Only three people in Canada have been infected with the Coronavirus -None of them have died -There are no cases of the Coronavirus in York region as of January 29 -Those infected in Canada are being tightly monitored -This year's flu has killed 8200 people in the United States, and will likely kill 3200 in Canada -The number of those infected with the Coronavirus is infinitesimally small compared to the number of people who have traveled to and from China You are asking for school officials to monitor anyone who's been to China, simply because there is a health emergency in a part of that country. And you are doing so, when the health risks are low, and when there are other health issues (like the flu, which you should get your kids vaccinated for) that are much more dangerous right now. This is just like asking school officials to 'monitor' anyone from the Middle East because of security issues there. You are presuming someone's health status based upon their travels, not on any sound science. How is this not profoundly racist and ignorant?

ATTN: John Konrad you are advertising and asking people to get FLU shots. Can you please provide them with facts that the current flu shot can keep them safe from Coronavirus? If you cannot, then don't you think being concerned as parents would be the least of our rights? A disease is a disease and has nothing to do with race. You are calling a lot of parents on here as racist and this is an insult to a community of concenred citizens. Please provide facts and do not insult people.

Only three people in Canada, as of right now, are infected with the Corona Virus. And no one in Canada has yet died of the disease. Compare that with the flu, which usually kills 3500 people a year. Right now, if you really want to take 'precautionary' measures to ensure the health and safety of the public, get your children vaccinated against the flu, and stop panicking over a disease which has yet to even appear in the York region.
