Stop the Potential spreading of the Novel coronavirus in schools of York Region, Ontario

Hey Stephen it is you that need to see the bigger picture here, it's obvious you dont have any kid to grow your concern here, You are here not to talk about the virus because all you care about is defending racism. In Australia they quarantined the people coming back from China in an island and nobody dare to talk about racism there. You are lucky to live here in Canada to open your big mouth about racism. Lets me remind you that SARS is Made in China, CORONA Virus is also Made in China. Do you think the people around the world just suddenly dislike Chinese people for no reason ? perhaps you should accept the fact that your people eat dogs, cats, bats, rats, etc. so God knows what virus comes next for the world. You should educate your people and yourself and that dude John Konrad (Chinese dude with fake Canadian last name) to stop eating wild animals stop being barbaric, then perhaps the world will learn to sympathize with your people more.

Mr. Konrad and other members, Please look at CBC news regarding the coronavirus crisis in Honkong and house arrests, etc. Also look at the conversation with Wayne Duplessis who is a Canadian citizen, a teacher and is in China and prefer not to travel at all including Canada for safety of himself and other people. Everybody commenting on here “shame on you York region” or “this is disgusting to call this petition racist” should go and read every single comment here like I have and then tell me that this petition hasn’t stoked racism.

How dare John Tory, other politicians and the Chinese community scold parents and accuse us of being racist! It’s absolutely disgusting that these politicians would rather put childrens’ lives at risk than hurt the feelings of travellers returning to Canada. We are requesting that all people who have travelled from Wuhan and surrounding areas, REGARDLESS OF DESCENT, be quarantined for a period of time before entry into the school system to prevent the spread of coronavirus in schools. This includes any Caucasian person returning from China! Conversely, if a Chinese Canadian has not travelled to China, he/she need not be quarantined. Therefore, there is no discrimination against a group on the basis of race here. This is a factual matter based on one’s travel itinerary to a specific geographic location, not race! This is negligence by Public Health, politicians and the school board and if a child gets sick or dies, we will hold every public health level, politicians and the school board fully accountable. You have knowledge of the health risks during incubation, you have a duty towards our children and you have failed to protect our children. Public Health and the Federal Health agency disclaims the countless reports that people can shed the virus during the incubation period of two weeks, yet have presented absolutely no evidence to support their position. If they have nothing to support their position, then they should err on the side of caution which is that it can spread during the two week incubation period. Other first world countries require quarantine for a period upon return from China. Are they racists also?! We are paying you to protect us and you are dropping the ball and have the nerve to call us racists! Shame on you!

If you are concerned for the safety of your child, don't wait for this petition. Keep your kids home from school today! We should start a second petition to ask kids (or their family) who traveled to US recently to stay away from school. The ongoing regional measles outbreak in parts of US has even more people affected than this virus. Kids who are not vaccinated should stay home until they get vaccinated.

John Konrad , can u guarantee no one will die and no more people will be infected? Just say yes or no? I don’t think you can. We are talking about possibly and potential ? Even no coronavirus , there are racist people out there, you can not change them. We are not talking about racism now. It is a medical procedure, just to make sure kids are safe.

Anyone who twist those to be a racist issue is a racist themselves because that’s the first think on their mind instead of thinking about the health and safety of the public. Okay! Day Two here... Again, just to reiterate... Only 3 cases have appeared in Canada so far (Jan. 29). That's three out of literally hundreds of thousands of people that have travelled from China to Canada in the last month or so. Both Chinese and Canadian authorities have placed significant restrictions on those who have travelled around Wuhan, to say nothing of the number of health checks being conducted on travellers. For anyone saying "I'm not a racist", it doesn't matter. Being racist happens as much by your actions as it does by your beliefs. So if you decide to panic, and declare anyone from China needs to be monitored by the school board for Coronavirus, but also say "I'm not a racist", that doesn't mean you are not doing something that is racist. Especially since, as I've said, ONLY 3 PEOPLE HAVE BEEN INFECTED. And no one has died in Canada of this disease, thankfully. IF you are concerned about the health of your child, remember that it is flu season right now. The flu has killed 8300 people in the United States alone... That's more than the total number of people that have died worldwide from the Coronavirus. So if you want to do something worthwhile... Do not sign this petition, and get yourself and your loved ones vaccinated for the flu. You will be protecting those who are at most risk, and the subject of race won't be an issue

Calm down please. Here is Canada and not China. The risk here remains low now, lower than the common flu. I know people watch TV and read news from China and all over the world, day by day, end up with getting panic. I agree we should protect kids and protect everybody, but life has to go on. I also agree this petition per se is not racism obviously. My understanding is that, when the flight between China and Canada is open, most people will go directly into their immediate community. If there is anyone infected coronavirus, any parents in community are in the same level of risk. Logically all kids are experiencing the risk, not only the one taking the flight. Other countries also have infected cases, should we let all parents landed in airport get their kids quarantined even if the kid did not travel? The safest way is to keep yourself isolated from the society but as said, the life has to go on. In this level of risk in Canada, I do not think we should be panic and use kids or seniors as excuses to impose partially effective measures. Actually I feel the fear of people more than being reasonable or staying calm! I agree that everyone who traveled should take great care to isolate himself and notify the surround people. However, this is not enforced only because the chances are so low that government can not just enforce the policy you desired. I will not sign this petition and suggest resolving the issue case by case. For example, everybody landed should isolate himself if he think he has the potential as a carrier, even isolated from his immediate family members. This is a good test for your heart, your mind, your logic, and for the policy making. I believe most Canadians are open minded. If you are in fear, why not keep your mouth shut and just shut yourself and kids at home for several days? Not everyone landed are virus carriers. Zerohedge is not a reliable source, but that's neither here nor there. The 'information' you have isn't applicable to Canada. There have only been three cases thus far, all isolated. None in York Region, Ontario. And no one has died yet of the disease. Right now, the flu has killed more in Canada. Unlike Coronavirus, the flu will likely kill something like 3500 people this season. That is a much more pressing health issue, and one easily fixed through vaccinations. That is, right now, the serious discussion that should be being had, and further panic surrounding Coronavirus isn't going to help anyone.

If you want to wear a mask, that is fine. Just keep in mind, only 3 people right now are sick from Coronavirus in Canada, so it's kinda a redundant thing. The flu right now is a much more pressing health issue, and if you are concerned about it, I suggest you get yourself and those you love vaccinated Many people here are objecting to this petition that wants the school board in York region to monitor and report any students from China, and be enforcing restrictions upon students. This is racially biased, and is disproportionate to the issue at hand

Annie H, only 3 people have been shown as testing positive for Coronavirus in Canada so far. It's unfair to paint everyone who's travelled from China with such a wide brush. I've been saying this in the comments, there are far more dangerous illnesses here in Canada, such as with the flu. If you are concerned about the health of students, get vaccinated, get your children vaccinated, and encourage others to get vaccinated
