Stop the Potential spreading of the Novel coronavirus in schools of York Region, Ontario

I just rely on the facts which is announced though legal news. If you want to blame someone for fear then contact all news agencies not to disclose all info to avoid public panic. This petition is to advise our governers to pay a better attention to safety of our children (not sure if you two have any or really care about it). If school board can go on strike to gain financial benefits then I don't see why that don't bother you!

You failed to answer any of my questions because the reality is you are trying to hide the fact that you are just here to spread fake facts and fear. Please show me where you read that 'based on the known facts as of now each infected person can pass the virus to 3 other people.'. Is it only 3? Can they choose which 3 people? What happens after they spread it to 3 people? Are they cured? Do they transform into a zombie? I'd like to know. The only 'real fact' here is that you pretend to be educated on the matter because you heard something from someone else.

If you are so terrified Sam then why don’t you just keep your children at home? Why are you here trying to spread fear with your fake facts and what you heard from your friend’s coworker’s cousin’s neighbor?

How would you gurantee they respect such request? My friend's colleague left a week a go to visit China eventhough she knows the risk and when everyone told her it's dangerous she replied "I don't care"! I know it's unfortunate but I don't think the public safety can rely on people's consciousness. I think it would be much more effective to cancel schools for several weeks and teachers feed children through online courses and activities.

Italy announced the state of emergency in their civilized country after finding only 1 infected person. Looks like the care about their children and public is their first priority before anything else. Bravo!

And the flu will continue to kill people because people just brush it off because it's common, "Oh, it's just the flu, I'll be ok in a few days". A teenager girl got the flu on Christmas eve and by New Year's eve she was dead...that's seven days, I repeat, 7 days...dead. That's quicker than the two week time period some people here are saying this coronavirus takes to kill someone. So why aren't we demanding that we 'close borders' for the flu? The reason people are so scared now is because this strain of coronavirus is new, it's mysterious, but there is no reason to panic like the world is going to end. Sunnybrook hospital just discharged the first patient diagnosed with the coronavirus meaning that patient has recovered to a point where in-patient care was no longer required. At this time, MERS is way more deadly than the current strain of coronavirus. The MERS outbreak killed a whopping 34%...one more time...34% of those infected, that's 1 in 3 people infected...dead. So why are we not 'closing borders' to or quarantining those that have traveled to the middle east? Why? Let me try to hypothesize why...experts have found MERS in camels and the camels are thought to be the source of the outbreak, but since we don't have camels here, then we are safe. Conversely, someone saw a video of an asian person drinking bat soup (which was uploaded in 2016) so ALL asians must drink bat soup, so ALL asians are at risk and since there are asians here, we are not safe. That is the type of ignorance and bigotry that is circulating on social media. So stop panicking, teach your children proper hygiene and stop fueling the fear-mongering going on here. Sign the petition if it makes you feel better and be done with it.

For the safety of our healthy population, please make it public the names of schools, which have confirmed people who visited or were in contact with the people from the infected areas.

Close the schools for the next week or two. Why are you ignoring this?

So! Day 3 now, lovely to see so many people claim anyone who's against this petition is a racist or a 'fake account'! Please keep it up, I do enjoy being disappointed in my fellow Canadians :) Especially when, as me and others have been saying... This petition is fear-mongering and is racially biased. Only 3 cases have appeared in Canada so far (Jan. 30). That's three out of literally hundreds of thousands of people that have travelled from China to Canada in the last month or so. Both Chinese and Canadian authorities have placed significant restrictions on those who have travelled around Wuhan, to say nothing of the number of health checks being conducted on travellers. ESPECIALLY in light of the WHO's announcement... Just because the WHO has upgraded the seriousness of this crisis does not mean that York region is about to be stricken with sick and injured persons. Both Canadian and Chinese officials are putting strict restrictions on individuals who have been believed to have been in the region. I will reiterate this again... Only three people have been infected in Canada, and no one has yet contracted the disease from another human in Canada. Unlike the flu, which just this season has forced hundreds of infants to be hospitalized. You are acting like this is poison gas... Coronavirus can be life-threatening, but the disease has actually a much lower mortality rate than SARS. You know what is more dangerous than that? The flu. You are right now more likely to catch the flu in Canada than the Coronavirus. And unlike the Coronavirus, it has killed people in Canada, including and particularly those who are most vulnerable. Flu killed 3400 people in the US last year... You want to promote health? You want to protect children? Stop worrying about a disease which has only infected three people in Canada, and get yourself vaccinated for the disease that is killing people here. You'll actually be doing something that protects your community, and I won't have to ask why your using the phrase 'all ethnics' when referring to those coming back from other countries

Since you are Chinese, you must know that China is a rather large place. Not everyone is sick there... In fact, it's really only 9600. Significant? Yes. Should this be a concern? Yes. But that's not reason to suddenly start hauling people out for coming from China. Travel restrictions are now in place for travel in China, and only three people so far, have been infected in Canada. And no human-human transmissions. Right now, the United States can't even say that... Should we start quarantining everyone from the US too?

I can only imagine it's because you are watching a lot of news right now, and while I think it's good to stay connected, your drawing a lot of conclusions from nothing. Not everyone from China is sick. Just because a plane arrives from China to Canada, does not mean the world is going to end. And as me and Stephen have told you multiple times in the last two days, all you are doing is fear-mongering. That helps no one, inspires racists, and does nothing to combat health issues in Canada

Well... No Coronavirus has been spreading in schools, so this is kinda redundant. Only three people in Canada have tested positive for the illness. All of them are quarantined, so unless someone else becomes infected, your local school is safe. Except for the flu, which unlike Coronavirus, is killing people in Canada. So get yourself vaccinated, and stop this nonsense
