Stop the Potential spreading of the Novel coronavirus in schools of York Region, Ontario

You claim ignorance is the worst enemy in one of your previous posts, yet the one that seems to be ignorant is you. The word "oriental" is outdated and widely considered offensive to many people of Asian descent. Use the proper term if you don't want to be called racist.

I think it’s important that we keep our children and our children’s teachers safe!

Thank you to Toronto's mayor for supporting the Oriental community and his political answer regarding our requests. As he mentioned, they are relying on the government health professionals and based on that we should not fear. However, as of now the health professionals have no other solution than isolate yourself so why not isolate our children to avoid wider spread? How the public expect a 5 years old child to realize his/her classmate sickness and avoid it? We know that our children rely on the online studies these days so why can't we keep our children at home and teachers feed them with online materials?

Take precautions to protect Public Health of all Canadians regardless of ethnicity.

The petition is simply asking for the taking of precautions so that potential contacts be isolated to prevent the spread of the virus. This is simply the implementation of the precautionary principle and the practice of due diligence on the part of the school board management. Failure to do so would be negligent.

I suggest to keep children at home for several weeks and teachers support them with online materials and activities until there will be a better resolution in the system for this virus. Schools can call for test days at the end of season. It would be a logical solution which applies to all parents and children accross Canada from any background.

It's unfortunate to see people from school board to call concerned parents as Racists and call it unnecessary for taking any precautionary action to protect kids while they allow themselves to go on strike frequently for their own financial gain! IGNORANCE is our worst enemy. It's like giving guns to children and expect them not to kill us! We SHALL NOT wait for the number of infection to be increased to take action. Looks like our young leaders have no experience and perhaps not enough concious and eduacation to handle such situation! It's a Shame!

I support this decision to avoid spread the virus and protect our kids from Corona Virus.

This is not racism by any means. This is a precautious measure during a global outbreak for a set period of time. This is not to rule out any nationality, this is for any person Chinese background or NON chinese background who have travelled to a specific infected region. It is also upsetting to read the comments left here with so many disrespect and racism to the chinese communities. This is signed to prevent further spread and not hate or racism. The creator of this petition, please monitor comments and remove hateful comments.

If this petition is not meant to stoke racism, the administrators should be swiftly removing all racist comments left — of which there is many, shamefully. Consider a sensitive rewrite. Take accountability for how you are making Chinese families and students in your community feel.
