Luke-Dorf has a history of neglecting the safety of both their own tenants/residents and neighboring residents. If this project was lead by another foundation/organization with a better track record, I don't think there would be as much push-back. The employee rating site, Glassdoor, reveals that current and former employees of Luke-Dorf feel that employees are spread thinly and overworked- thus leading to major oversights.
The Luke-Dorf representatives have not been clear about their updated vetting process. Therefore nearby homeowners and parents can not be reassured that "the incident" as they call it, won't be repeated.
Meanwhile, the county commissioner does not have his constituents in mind. The voice of the people is a resounding, "NO" to this project and their only concern is a loss in HUD funds. It's more than a disappointment for the neighborhood, this fosters contentious feelings between residents and the Board of Commissioners.
I haven't even addressed the obvious facts, such the local primary schools, daycare centers, and the development of a large park down the road. Transitional housing should be in an area where it is easy for residents to get to their jobs- this is a residential neighborhood and the only commercial property nearby is an outdated shopping center with a convenience store and a smattering of small businesses. Not exactly a hub for new job opportunities.
I'm not a NIMBY, I would welcome a facility to help people with mental illnesses- but one that is not supervised and has a dark history is not one I feel comfortable supporting in this community.

I see the need for Transitional Housing, but there are places that are appropriate and those that are not.
This proposed location is a no win for all. We are putting children and the rest of the neighborhood at risk and furthermore causing undo temptation for the residents to reoffend

Concerned for the safety of my kids and other kids in the community. Went to the meeting last night and I feel that they are hiding things from us. They never gave a straight answer and made different stories.

We need to keep our children safe. This is absolutely ridiculous that someone thinks this a viable option. Why don't they volunteer to have the facility in their neighborhood. Better yet, how about next door to the powers that be..

I have children who attend Erroll Hassell Elementary School and am strongly opposed to using 170th/Bany as a location for this type of housing.

Please pay attention to the extremely close proximity to not only 1 ,but 2 elementary schools where children walk DIRECTLY in front of the proposed housing location. God forbid a little child is harmed from the careless planning by Luke Dorf.
