London Weighting is the element in staff pay that is meant to compensate us for the high cost of living in London. UCL is the only one of London’s universities that has refused to negotiate with the unions over this – and it pays less than any of the others.

All of us who have been working at the Institute of Education since before the merger with UCL, over two years ago, are paid even less – over £600 less each year than our colleagues in the rest of UCL.

This is manifestly unfair. It leads to demoralisation – which is bad for staff and bad for students.

We demand that UCL starts to address this double injustice by giving all its staff the same London Weighting.
