Concerns Re: Plans for Sterling Blvd./W&OD Trail Intersection

This light will only make matters worse. Traffic will be backed up all the time and bikes will think the have tge right if way as long as they push the button. Leading to more accidents.

Try the least expensive solution first--Flashing lights on the bike path, next station police or car during the most traveled times, then try a bike rider responsive light (like Leesburg) with a delay. Are the bike riders in a race against time? Better save than fast!

If we do t change the intersection someone is going to get killed or seriously injured

I believe that this is terrible! If you want flashing lights, PUT BIG RED FLASHING STOP LIGHTS for the bikers on the trail, not for cars!! I've nearly rear ended idiots at this crossing who stop that shouldn't and I've nearly taken out a few bicyclist because of people driving cars who stop in the right as I keep going in the left!! Put a BIG sign for the cars that says, "vehicle traffic does NOT stop" similar to the ones at malls that say "incoming traffic does not stop". Nearly all drivers seem to understand that concept!! This isn't much different. Best case, close the state making trail since the bikers a fools and don't know how to stop and obey the laws. We all learned as children to stop and look both ways when crossing the street, so this shouldn't be rocket science for bikers who should have been taught this when they were children.

I say NO, to a flashing beacon at motorists. Flash at the bike riders. In the meantime law enforcement should monitor.

Even as a cyclist myself, I agree that this is not the solution as it will only cause confusion among drivers and reinforce the incorrect assumption of cyclists that they have the right of way, despite their stop sign.

This will only cause more confusion. More cars will be stopping when they are not supposed to stop.

This is definitely NOT a solution. No money for the Metro, yet somehow they are ram-rodding it up straight to Dulles Airport, but there is no money available to make a proper overpass for the idiot bikers who don't stop and the idiot drivers who aren't supposed to stop? Asinine.

Why not signs explaining the proper procedure? I don't see many bikes disobeying the law. But lots of cars stop when unnecessary. Bikes just sit and wait because they seem to know

This is a lousy idea.The W&OD trail users have a stop sign, install a flashing beacon warning THEM to stop. Do not stop road traffic and place a device that will be sure to cause sudden stops and rear end accidents.

I really believe that flashing lights at the Sterling Blvd bike crossing would be a huge mistake! A lot of these bicyclist already think that they don't need to STOP. Please rethink this.. Thank You, Susan Babick

Maybe get rid of the hash marks as cross walks often mean pedestrians have the right of way

A pedestrian initiated traffic light would be the best and safest solution.

I have to agree. The issue is not awareness of the trail for motorist but for adherence to the rules of right of way that have been established. Stop sign means stop. Do not waste my tax money on this ridiculous plan.

Terrible idea. This solution will continue to create a very dangerous situation.

Any beacon lights should be placed on the trail for the cyclists; not on the boulevard. No overpass neither. Everyone just needs to adhere to the signs. Cars: do NOT stop. You think you're being polite but you're only causing a hazard. Bikes: STOP and don't inch out. Wait until you have a clear opening. Nothing else is needed. So I say NO to flashing lights on Sterling Boulevard.

Flashing lights I do not feel is the answer. We need an overpass.
