As the most decorated combat hero of WWII and native Texan, I feel that a mere portrait of Audie (currently hanging in the state capitol with limited viewing opportunities), is not a fitting recognition of this soldier.
Although there are assorted recognitions of Audie throughout the state, including statues in San Antonio and in Greenville, a hero of his stature deserves more.
I believe that a statue of him should occupy a prominent place of honor on the grounds of the state capitol as the capitol draws thousands of visitors daily.
I sincerely hope that you will join me in petitioning the Texas State legislators to rectify this obvious oversight and recognize the deeds and sacrifices this man made for his country.
True story: While visiting the capitol awhile back, I asked the staffer in the Office of Veterans Affairs where I could find Audie's portrait. "Who is this..Audie Murphy?" was the staffers reply.
