As a member of this community, I’m appalled at this decision and it’s “reasoning” . It clearly violates state mandate, which is based on science and data.

Masks are the most important thing for stopping the spread of the virus—and the flu too! Since kids cannot yet get the vaccine, masks are the only thing that will protect them. Protect our children, AND everyone in our community, with masks! Now is not the time to stop listening to science. and 80º is not at all excessive.

The infection rates were not the same at the end of last school year so your argument is faulty. Additionally, it is well proven that in order for masking to be effective it must be done universally. The only person not acting normally here is the immature trolling your are demonstrating.

What are you doing? People still getting infected with the variant and more dying. Do you know that more children than ever are mow getting infected? Maybe the entire Board of Education should go back to school due to the favt that they are so iresponsible and stupid!

Any board of ed is elected to protect our children. Masks are necessary and why are you doing it at the last minute without notice. Really sneaky.

This is extremely disappointing. I want to send my kids back to school safely. My son has asthma and I have cancer. Our best protection from also getting COVID is the vaccine which he is not old enough to get and wearing masks/washing hands. Shame on this decision being made 2 days before school starts so that we do not have any time to make alternative arrangements.

Changing the rule is unnecessary and dangerous. Avg of 75' is most definitely not excessive heat. Many people, and children have been wearing masks in those temps, and much higher. The law states excessive heat is index of 105. As a parent I am grateful for the forecast for the comfort of the children.

As a local vocal coach for many of the West Milford students, I want them to stay healthy. Our best line of defense is a vaccination if eligible AND a mask. Science is real. Too hot? If the heat is excessive, then parents can assume their children can wear whatever they want to stay cool.

Funny you would comment Ms. Lorenzo. Word on the street is you think our BOE is "too obese" to make decisions for our district but you have no problem kissing up at BOE meetings. Fake much?

It is the job of those elected to the board of ed in any town to ensure the safety as well as the education of its students. It makes me wonder if these members deserve the position they were elected to fill.

Thanks for starting this petition. We clearly can not trust the judgment or leadership of the district, (or many of the parents in it). This is worth standing up for. We need to teach our children that the health and well being of others (and ourselves), is worth any minor discomfort we feel from wearing a mask.
