SAU 29 finally dropped their absurd defense and voted to move the start time to 8:30 AM. After all their stalling, our kids are actually going to get the sleep they need to function. Stay alert to make sure they follow through on the implementation.

We, the undersigned, urge SAU 29 to improve the health and learning of our children by following the scientific recommendations and national trend of adopting a start time of no earlier than 8:30 AM for Keene High School.

Updates

October 24, 2016

SAU 29 can no longer ignore the tidal wave of parents demanding they actually listen to the science. They have sat on their hands for long enough while our kids suffer through these outdated schedules.

the 222 to 6 pm time slot is when drug use emerges. We can move school start time one hour later, and cut that vulnerable slot by a third. It's a no brainer.

My grandson has to wakes up every morning to catch his highschool bus at 6:10. He is a growing teenager and needs more rest!!!

My teenager wakes up at 5:30 every morning to catch his bus at 6:10. This schedule makes playing sports or other after school activities almost impossible.

Seeing my sophomore in college blossom as a result of his day starting much later than when he was in high school is validation to me of the value of this action.

The science is clear that teenagers need more sleep, and learn better, have less depression, anxiety and other problems, with a later start. If Brattleboro, VT can make it work (and report positive results), so can Keene! It's ridiculous to keep doing something that everyone hates (students, parents, teachers) just because it is the way things have always been done.

Having worked with all student ages from 3-21, I firmly believe that High School starts TOO EARLY for teenagers to fully access their educational opportunities.

My boys are in elementary school still, but I can see how this would be a benefit.

The time has come for this improvement.
