Alligator Gar are an extremely important fish ecologically. They are relatively slow to reach sexual maturity and therefore susceptible to over harvest.

These fish should be protected from over harvest, for our future generations to see them. Bowfishkng does so much damage to the numbers of these gar. I fish for gar on rod and reel and everycatch is a release but my effort does nothing if bowfisherman take whatever they want no matter length of gar.
