I have always respected alligator gar and think theses fish should be around for future fisherman

Gar have been around on this earth for tens of millions of years. The fact that humans threaten them is a disgrace.

Beautiful fish need protection so our grandchildren can experience them, plus all species deserve to exist.

These prehistoric armored ganoid scales goliaths deserve more protection from fisherman, bowfisherman, and the destruction of habitat. Maybe a slot limit should be imposed where you can net and capture some the juveniles for study and still allow a minimum length selected trophy type harvest of of some large female fish in the summer or fall AFTER a successful spring spawning season that is protected with a law placing the population of... Atractosteus spatula- ALLIGATOR GAR COMPLETELY OFF LIMITS TO ANY TYPE OF HARVEST WHEN THEY ARE THE MOST VULNERABLE..... DURING THE SPRING SPAWNING SEASON. There is a difference between fishing and bow fishing and shooting fish in a barrel. If you're a true Hunter and fisherman like me you want a little bit of a challenge. If you're just a beer-drinking redneck then you're the one that doesn't want a challenge and you just want to show off your big fish and lots of them on Facebook or some other social media. You're the one that needs to have limits placed upon them to protect this awesome fish. Boost your ego even farther by proving that you can shoot fish when they're not in 18" of water and a spawning group of adults can be killed with a baseball bat, if someone could just sneak quietly thru the water to get close enough to them for a whack in the head... show me and everyone else that you are a real hunter or fisherman than can use your God given brain and ability to reason to outsmart them when they're not in a group of a dozen or more in weedy, shallow, muddy water & in it... as thick as thief's. As they say when something is a given or too easy... "that it was like shooting fish in a barrel...." COME ON FOLKS USE YOUR HEAD... it doesn't make you look any more bad ass... when you've got 10 giant fish, that could have spawned versus one giant fish. And you're damn sure not as good as the person that went looking for that one giant fish all day or all night versus going into a slew and killing them like a bunch of seals. I
