There is no reason these need to be killed. If you want catch them, fine, but let it go!

I've seen firsthand how bowfisherman waste big gar after shooting them. They stay in the boat and get dumped after pictures are taken. I personally like to eat them. And nice big mature one I release them when caught on rod and reel. Bow fishing is a waste. I think it should be limited to invasive carp considering how easy it is to fill a boat with fish while bow fishing. After being invited on a few bow fishing trips with various people. I was not enthused at how fish was wasted.

I’m a hunter and fisher. These dinosaurs deserve more respect than what they get from our community in my opinion.

Gar should not be taken by bow, period. Deserve a fair chase catch method.

Needless killing. Should be a limit on length, kind of like how red fish have their 1 per year tag over 27”, and a bag limit.

It is time for the state of Texas to thoroughly protect a native species of predator which has been wrongly publicized as a pest. Alligator gar are a great sport species which I am certain will bring more revenue to the state of Texas through Catch & Release guide services an trophy protections.
Thank you

This fish is far from being a trash fish and should be treated like the trophy it is

Proponent for allowing scientific data and criteria for determining harvest limits. Personally I feel bow-fishing should be prohibited from harvesting native fish.

Ban all Bowfishing as it is a disgusting practice. There is absolutely nothing sporting about it, as the larger the fish, the easier the harvest and we’ve all seen the obnoxious lights and piles of dead fish on the boat ramps.
