To improve the parking situation at Ucsd Thornton there should be no monthly fees, provide adequate security round the clock for protection to employees and to our patients.

Parking conditions are horrible. I have had to get here at 0600, an hour early, in order to get a parking place! There is just not enough adequate parking and safety is an issue when you have to arrive before and leave after it is dark.

This week I stopped counting at 120 empty "A" spaces and there were an additional two entire empty "A" floors. This is not OK.

I hear a lot of my coworkers going round and round looking for parking, running to the department to clock and then rushing to take care of our patients.

I have over 20 years of service. When we have gotten the small increase in wages parking has gone up and so have union dues. If I didn't have to pay for parking that would be an $81.00 pay raise for me!

Please help us out! Paying for parking and not having adequate spots is ridiculous.
Thank you.

To many A parking spaces empty, should make it available for employee use. This A parking spaces, at the best occupancy is at 5% of capacity. Just being wasted, not being used, empty all the time.

I am concerned about the parking situation with upcoming closure of parking lot near Scripps. we are already feeling the impact with the opening of Jacobs and additional staff. The traffic leaving UCSD campus between 430-6pm is a nightmare, it is ridiculous that it can take 30 minutes just to get off the medical campus, This is extremely poor planning. Not to forget that patients are also impacted by this situation and are arriving late to their appointments due to lack of parking. This is going to result in poor customer satisfaction. The parking pay stations on the walkway to Thornton are difficult to use, I have not passed them when there has not been a line of people trying to pay for parking, I have had to stop to help people who were upset as they were late for appointments, Parking should be considering offering a reduction in cost not an increase!

Between the price, the distance, and the traffic I find myself highly discouraged. I have many patients who are unable to afford parking and I find it ridiculous they are required to do so. I have had TWO patients have their disable placards taken and NOT returned (also non-English speaking). There needs to be a new system that allows patients and employees a break. I am now parking on the 6th or 7th floor of Athena for the same price I was paying to park in the campus point lot. I would be happy to work towards a solution to the mess that we are currently dealing with.

#1 Patients should not have to pay for parking!
#2 The parking here is poorly managed and the changes made continue to negatively affect the core staff.
At other UC sites, they use a zone parking grid (the closer you are to the hospital, the more you pay etc). Also, if you are forced to park in an uncovered space (like the 7th floor of Athena), you should not have to pay the same price as someone in a covered spot.
There are many alternate solutions to this terribly managed parking problem and I am quite certain many would be willing to be a part of the solution.

The parking situation for the staff here at UCSD is terrible I have to arrive 30-45 minutes early just to find a spot to park and with the time change leaving at 6:00 it is dark and the lighting to the Athena parking lot is very poor and dangerous for your staff and many places where potential attacKers could hide just on the walk to your car!! This is a VERY dangerous situation and needs attention.
When you pay for parking you do not expect to have to park so far from the building you are working at.
The parking is not just poor for the staff but also for patients on a daily occurrence patients complain and are upset over the parking situation patient's with cancer DO NOT NEED to be worrying about how they will pay for parking and if they are going to be able to walk the distance from the garage to the Cancer Center Again Very Poor Customer Service!!
Hopefully this has even the higher up who make decisions for their staff some insight on their feelings and concerns for our well being and safety!!

We are the working bees of the establishment and yet we are not valued. Please show appreciation by providing sufficient parking spaces for the working bees. Reminder,. We pay for parking and we are not asking for free parking.

The parking issue at UCSD is creating a hug problem for employees to arrive safely and on time to their work responsibilities. It takes me sometimes 20-30 minutes to find parking Monday through Friday. Patients are arriving late to their doctors appointments complaining also about parking while also complaining how hard it is for them to find parking and also to understand the parking pay station.
This past year (2016), I have had to park in parking spaces that are further and further from where I work, causing me to have to walk long distances to get to my car. With the time change, I fear for my safety as I have to walk distances to my parking spot in the dark.
Paying over $1,200 a year for UCSD parking is outrageously expensive and there are hardly any spaces for the employees to park upon arrival.
Furthermore, there are many "A" parking spots available in the Athena parking lot and the Shiley Eye Center parking lot that are never full. I have to go all the way up to the 6th or 7th floor of the Athena parking lot to park and there are hardly any "B" spaces available.
This parking situation at UCSD is becoming a major cancer for the institution, causing unnecessary psychological stress to all employees who hold a "B" parking permit.
We provide extraordinary care to our patients with quality and safety and we deserve to be treated with value. Giving us a "B" parking permit and only allowing us to park in a "B" parking space is a representation of the old hierarchical systems that are dated and no longer serving the people of this day and age. In order for UCSD to truly be able to create a healing space for people who are sick, the employees need to feel valued. The issues with the parking at UCSD makes the employee feel undervalued. It is key for UCSD to value their employees if they want to be able to create a caring space for their consumers (patients/clients) to feel safely cared for. Remember that valued employees always go the extra mile t

I understand the need to charge for parking but the fees for staff here are the highest of any I have encountered. Pricing should be tiered based on distance to the nearest building. Making staff park further away and charging more is not good for morale. Seeing A Faculty spaces go unused where they could be filled by B staff is very frustrating.

All I know is that neither Kaiser, Sharp or Scripps charges their employees to park. I am not aware of any hospital that do in San Diego. There should be more emphasis on valuing the employees. We are all experiencing an incredible influx with traffic, and transportation issues have been extremely problematic lately. Charging almost a grand a year adds insult to an already awful experience getting to and from work.

Totally agree. Parking is horrible. In the new structure you have to drive all the way up to 5-6 to get a spot. There are 3 floors of A parking with hardly any cars. Who looks at these things? UTILIZATION!
