The board has finally agreed to a new representative for the stable staff. It took far too much energy to get them to listen but we succeeded. We will be watching the new appointment closely to ensure they actually serve our interests this time.

Final supporters
We, the undersigned are calling for a change in the representative of the stable staff on the HRI board at the 2016 AGM of the Irish Stable Staff Association.
It has been well documented over recent times that the only option for food available to stable staff at many racecourses across Ireland is often overpriced, of poor quality and offers very little in variety.
This isn't the only issue that has been raised with the association by its members, it is one of many that has been ignored and disregarded.
Stable staff deserve better than this !

The long hours are taking a toll on all of us but we are getting closer to the next milestone that forces them to pay attention. I need you to reach out to a few colleagues who are still on the fence so we can hit this target before the board meeting.

I was on of the unfortunate to get food poisoning from the canteen at Tipperary racecourse. The food in general for stable staff at these racecourses is not good enough and mostly over priced. Some canteens like the curragh are very good and order canteens have improved but most are still in the dark ages
Dundalk tues... €24 for 3 of us bite eat... no best turned out in any race yet 40k race on and 5k best dressed lady competition. .... seriously come on!!!!!!!!
Surely it's not a big job to provide stable staff with a decent healthy meal afew of the top racecourses have good food but the majority of the smaller tracks are a disgrace
Fair pay for excessive hours worked during the week, expenses for attending race meetings to be paid tax free! Shower/wash rooms need to be addressed and upgraded at multiple tracks and the standard of food available at some racecourses is far below par. Thank you.
It is a disgrace that staff are treated so poorly and it will finish up with nobody entering the racing industry to replace the thousands who have already left because of unsuitable conditions myself included. It's heartbreaking to turn your back on a job you love & miss so much.

The whole ISSA needs a revamp it needs professional representation not what we have now conditions of canteens and what is on offer is just the tip of the iceberg there is far more deep rooted problems that need to be seriously addressed unfortunately at the moment there is no representitive for stable lads able [or willing] to do this
