St. John Parents - Concerned about cuts

Please consider your decitions on the education !!!

These cuts are unacceptable and short-sighted. Shame!

450 Students + an average of 8 IEPs per class = we need our E.As!!!!!!!!

The cuts that St. John's is facing is quite concerning. Losing the EA and .5 VP means that all those duties are passed onto someone else on the St. John staff and increasing the workload for others. There is a mental health aspect to consider and putting too much on anyone's plate can be an issue over time. Please reconsider how this will play out for our school community.

St. John school may have a small population compared to other schools but it has a BIG requirement to meet the needs of the children- most especially the IEP students that rely heavily on these teachers. It will be a huge loss/disruption in the education of these children if these positions will be eliminated. Your careful positive consideration is very much appreciated. Sincerely. We need the board to reevaluate & reconsider given the needs of our student body. Stop cuts to our schools and reassess how to save money elsewhere for long term benefit. N

You have already taken away our child services worker & reduced our VP to 1/2 time. We also no longer have a full time librarian. Private school is looking better all the time. Sadly, for many families that is not an option.

Over 17% of our students at St. John are special needs kids. I understand cuts are sometimes necessary, but these ones are wrong! Please reconsider. We need to keep our half-time principle position as well as Ms. Medeiros' position to give support to the kids that need it most. These cuts will hurt the future of these kids, as well as the rest of the kids at St. John.

These cuts makes absolutely no sense. I beg you to reconsider and make the right choice in not making these cuts so that our children do not suffer.

Reconsider these decisions as these positions are very important to the children.

All students at St. John's are impacted by the proposed cuts and those cuts are simply unacceptable. The health, safety and environment in which the children can learn and thrive had already been drastically compromised by the cuts that had already taken place to date, now these new cuts are making the day to day learning environment an impossible one in which for the children and teachers that remain to properly function. PLEASE re-consider this foolhardy cost-cutting measure that can only result in the detriment of the education of all the children in the school. When special education programs are compromised, it impacts on the learning environment on each and every student in the school.

Our most vulnerable students will not be receiving the help and guidance that they need. I am very disappointed.

democracy is at risk. cutting supports for students with IEPs in elementary and secondary schools and expecting teachers to manage students with anxiety issues, ASD, LD, MID, OCD, other mental health challenges, hunger, fatigue, absent parents (working poor doing shift work) and teach the curriculum is risking all of our educational goals. if we want employable, literate, participants in our democracy who can vote for progress, we need to fund education to reach all students. I'm signing this for all the parents I know who can't protest the injustice of cutting support staff for our most vulnerable students. students with fewer needs will also lose out as teachers try to "teach" students with multiple barriers and allow students with fewer barriers (more assets) to "wait" as fewer and fewer adults try to serve the increasing needs of the tcdsb population.

This is a growing school with tremendous potential. Please reconsider other ways to balance the budget that will not affect the daily lives and outcomes for these 450 students. Full administration and the appropriate resources for our 77 special needs students are critical to the success of our kids and the community of St. John.

Please reconsider these cuts. We are making short term decisions that will undermine our kids' future. Every dollar not invested now will represent thousands of future dollar costs.

I understand cuts are sometimes needed but these are fundamental roles that the school cannot afford to lose. I ask that you reconsider the recent teacher and administration changes

While I understand that the board must balance it's budget, I believe that they are making unacceptable cuts to essential staff that will have a long term negative impact on our school community. The board has to consider the fact that these cuts will drive many parents to look to the public board as a preferable alternative for their children.

These cuts to special education are short sighted and will have long lasting effects throughout St. John's and other schools as these children move forward. As for other administration, our school seems to be a revolving door with regards to these positions. I would like to hear the board's plan for how one principal who often needs to be off site is supposed to effectively complete all the tasks in her job description as well as a vice principals', especially at at time when the teachers have implemented work to rule - to which there is no end in sight. Our children and school community will suffer the consequences.

It is important that no one be left out where education is concerned and these cuts state that special needs students are not important.
