I’m a lifelong d11 community member and graduate. I think it’s very important that the district supports SSPs. We have a lot of kids struggling in our society, they need these amazing people!

I did not know this prior to being hired and is one reason I am looking at other districts or private practice.
As a counselor with a good deal of experience, I have never encountered another district who would make such a stance that clearly devalues service providers. I do hope they change their mind soon.

I will speak to the fact that I have worked with counselors during my tenure in D11 and cannot speak to the fullness of their value to our kids and families high enough. I am once again disappointed in the lack of appreciation that this district shows the people in the “trenches” and yet they make decisions that affect those doing the work that affects students and families! I have worked many years with our counselors and we work as a team to SERVE our students, families, and school communities! How sad that you continue to de-value those that do the most important work that affects the “Heath and Wellness@ we continue to speak as so important!!!

Shame on you District 11 for not seeing the value the committed SSP’s in your district offer. The children in your schools deserve a stable environment which includes repeated contact with the people that support and care about their overall well-being, in addition to their education. Classroom teachers are caring and supportive, but they cannot offer 1-to-1 support to every student in their classrooms and they often need additional support themselves. It is well documented that employees in the education field are underpaid and now you are expecting them to work without job security too! Shame on you!
