Over the course of the last few years, the soccer fields have begun to deteriorate. We believe the problem to be caused largely due to inadequate field maintenance by the township of Sayreville. A child had become injured from falling in a hole. He and his parent attended a council meeting where it was promised that the town was going to give some intensive reformation over the summer, particularly field 6, which did not occur. There has been a very big issue with the condition of our fields and the safety of the children. It has gotten worse and has become dangerous. We care about the safety of our children. This could cause a major lawsuit should someone become severely injured.

When it rains for a day or two, the fields are not usable. This has caused our program to start later than it should, or cut shorter than it should have. Rain causes a major problem. The fields are an embarrassment to Sayreville.

Why is SSC not benefitting from the Green Acres Funds? The budget is there since 1993. We were promised a turf field, never happened. We have asked for speed bumps for both the road and the parking lot, that hasn’t happened. We have asked for pedestrian signs, & one way signs, haven’t received any. Saturdays are very populated with children ages 2-14. Crossing guard volunteers help, but we need signs; 5 mph signs, pedestrian signs, one way signs.

The gate has been left unlocked many times and for this reason we have been vandalized 3 years in a row. Benches and flags have been stolen. Field 6 has been driven on. We need fencing around field 6 to prevent this. And the gate needs to be locked every single night, as promised it would be. That lasted for a short time.

The Club does have volunteers that help with the minor field projects. Things have gotten so severe that there is nothing any human can do on their own. We need professionals to come in and give the entire complex a revamp. We, as volunteers, simply do not have the means to do such work.

We need help from Sayreville Parks & Recreation Department. Not just broken promises time and time again. The poor field conditions and needs of the complex speak for itself. Despite many efforts to draw focus to the issue, we believe that until a majority of SSC's Members speak out and voice their dissatisfaction with the fields' situation; our voice alone will continue to be but a whisper in the wind. To amplify that whisper to a volume that gets heard, a petition has been crafted. The petition is attached. We are hopeful that if a significant number of Sayreville taxpayers sign this, that the Petition's call to action cannot be ignored by those in responsible positions within Sayreville, and get us the help we need.

Legal counsel is currently reviewing the maintenance logs and public records regarding Green Acres funding. We have requested a formal meeting with the township manager to discuss the unfulfilled safety improvements.

The fields are deplorable! If there is even a treat of rain the fields close. We have been involved with soccer for our children over 6 years now and there has never been any repairs or changes to the fields. Our children deserve better our parents deserve better, our guest players from other teams deserve better!

The addition of a turf field will be great for all involved. It is more or less maintenance free , has no divets. Less volunteers will be needed for field maintenance and less injuries will occur.

My twins have played for the 10 years are those absolutely horrific fields. Both kids have had injuries as a result. Visiting teams have complained about the field conditions. It's time Sayreville take pride in the soccer program!

These fields are an embarrassment to Sayreville. I don't live in Sayreville but I watch my grandchildren play. I also watch them fall from the dips in the fields. They need to be fixed.

I went to the meeting the night they finalized the budget for this year and they said it was too late to move any money around ,but will look into for next year, here we are next year will be here. Every person in this organization needs to show up at the next meeting and speak on thier child's behalf!!!!

I grew up playing soccer in Sayreville. I learned many good lessons on the field which has served me well. Investing in the fields is investing in the future. New Jersey has a very strong tradition in soccer. The future Carli Lloyd or Alexi Lalas could be in our town.
