This is a slap in the face to minorities who actually suffer REAL racism from other institutions. The claim that SPU is somehow intentionally racist is beyond me.

A slogan is just a stream of words with no real meaning if there is no action behind them to bring the vision and impact to life. Let's see our slogan grow from being a catchy phrase to a lived reality with meaningful impact. "Engage the culture. Change the world" Enthusiastically signed. Class of '12

The rhetoric of love and peace and unity is not enough when our own campus is a bastion of intolerance, racism, and structural injustice. As a University in the 21st Century, we have a responsibility to be better than this. As a Christian University, we have a divine mission to be better than this.

I admit, this petition is extremely specific... And it NEEDS to be. These changes are powerful and speak volumes about what the gospel is all about. In order to uphold the mission of, "engage the culture, change the world," Seattle Pacific University needs to not simply think about these changes, but take action and implement them. I would love to see these changes take place at my alma mater!
