Listen to these learned students who have taken SPU at its word and found it lacking. They are heeding God's calling for such a time as this. Listen and act!

ENG 3334 - African American Literature and ENG 3332 - African Literature would be other classes that would be helpful in promoting and creating understanding about diversity within the SPU campus.

The conversations that have been taking place on campus - though with good intention and sound mind - must be followed through with action that is exemplified through this petition. This is a call for all to participate in an active change that is for the betterment of the SPU culture.

As an alumna and parent of a potential student, I whole-heartedly support this petition and the changes therein. Our community can and must do better if we truly seek to reflect God's Kingdom.

If you call yourself an ally, you should be signing this. If you have been waiting for more "organized action," you should be signing this. If you have refrained in the past because you haven't felt you were welcome, you should be signing this. If you believe it is the will of our Creator to engage with the oppressed and seek His face and grace in the support and uplifting of marginalized people, you should be signing this. If you have allowed yourself to silently standby because you didn't find the action appropriate, patriotic, organized, graceful, or appropriate - YOU SHOULD BE SIGNING THIS.
For too long our POC students and the women on this campus have tried to jump through hoops to pass an invisible test of appropriate action, and enough is enough. They have spoken, they have been thorough and professional and intelligent in their design and manner of engagement with staff and faculty. It's time to sign.

I currently am a graduate student here and did my undergraduate work at SPU as well. While there are many things I love about this school, the cultural competency and diversity of the administration and faculty as a whole is unacceptable.

The parent of a current student. I elected for my child to attend this university never would have I thought she would be fighting for social and cultural change something I had to fight for so she wouldn't 25 years ago. This sadden and disgust me the lack of care they have for their student our future leaders.
