Sprinklers in Wandsworth Council Tower Blocks

Residents views should be respected, with guarantees over the quality of workmanship, aesthetic impact and access implications prior to the council enforcing any decision.

As a leaseholder I am strongly opposed to the forced installation of sprinklers within my home.

I am strongly against the installation of sprinkles in side my flat.I not think they are necessary in the block were floors and walls are from reinforced concrete.Why not to go for more affordable solutions: such as fire proofed doors in all flats,fire extinguisher on the corridors,removing flammable waste around block.In the end Leaseholder is a person which is not extremely wealthy just a one who choose to save money and own property. Fire in Grenfell Tower was horrible lesson,and definitely lesson is learn by followed basic health and safety rules.

As discussed at meeting this does not appear to be good use of budget - Some blocks need sprinklers but Gaitskell does not. It is concrete and brick, and fire cannot spread. - The evaluation of sprinkler systems should be on a block by block basis - Rather than sprinkler systems, the council should take responsibility for maintaining the block - If they cannot maintain the other aspects of the block how can we trust them to install sprinklers in our flats - Who is going to be accountable and what would the compensation for failure to install or maintain the sprinklers be

I do not think residents should have to pay for these - I am a leaseholder and have just had to fork out £2700 for lifts which have been poorly installed, and do not function in the way they should. the same could happen with sprinklers

Totally pointless and expensive system we don't need or want.

A costly knee jerk reaction that will not improve the life of residents in our block but merely see them more out of pocket. Spend the time and money on ensuring everyone has good fire doors and fire extinguishers that are serviced.

Sprinklers in all blocks are an expensive, disruptive and over complicated process for a problem which does not exist in our block. The council should focus on other more pressing issues such as windows, improving the appearance of the block and general internal decoration which is currently shoddy from previous poorly executed major works programs. Hopefully the council will listen to the residents of the Borough and not force through a change which is unwelcome by the majority of residents.

NO TO SPRINKLERS regardless of who pays for them - the whole project would be a nightmare

I am strongly against to the installation of sprinklers inside my flat. They are not necessary, unwanted, extremely expensive annoyance. I wouldn't like them even if they were free. I’m a Leaseholder and oppose to the insane fee. I cannot afford it.

This issue goes beyond whether or not leaseholders should pay for sprinklers - it is about whether they are even needed as it is a very expensive project and that money may be better suited to other areas of housing that require investment

As a leaseholder strongly oppose the installation of sprinklers in our block, having bought our flat last year and having spent considerable time and money renovating it ourselves. This work includes the lowing of our ceilings to hide the surface mounted electrical work the council undertook many years ago as a cost effective way to re-wire the flat. We do however support a review of the fire safety measures and compartmental approach already in place in the block. We are intelligent, professional and educated people and if there is something that we feel is worth investing in to improve our safety rather than the reputation of the council then we would be on board. This is a completely unnessisary waste of money and an invasion of our space.

I do not want sprinklers inside my house. We have no cladding. All flats have a first alert smoke detectors. The maintenance costs would be prohibitive. The risk of accidental triggering is too great. This would make our insurance costs rise very high indeed. Also, I have zero confidence in the workmanship of the installation viz show flat, bearing in mind WBC's policy of taking the lowest tender. Low costs do not equate with good standards of workmanship. Put the sprinklers if you must, in the public areas but with caution as it could be vandalised. Put an audible fire alarm in the building. Provide everyone with a fire extinguisher and a fire blanket - cheaper! In one afternoon, I got 17 [out of 48] signatures to refute having sprinklers in the building. If I had had more time to complete the petition, I would have had more signatures.

I do not want sprinklers in my flat because it is not necessary to have them installed. The construction of our block is safe all the floors and party walls are reinforced concrete and so are the externals walls : thus our flats are self contained they do not allow for the spread of fire. Sprinklers installed by WBC will ruin our interiors, will cause new problems damp and mould and hefty bills to pay for the owners . I do not t want them in my flat. The reputation of our blocks will go down and nobody would like to buy this flats because they will have ugly interiors.

The sprinklers are necessary for the safety of the residents. But I think the council should be responsible for paying the cost of it. Example the importance of remembering Grenfell Tower.

I want no sprinklers thank you very much. This is an unwanted extremely expensive annoyance. I wouldn't like it even for free.
