SPORT MUST BE CATEGORISED BY SEX, NOT GENDER IDENTITY.
As Kiwis we pride ourselves on our reputation of being people who play hard, but fair when it comes to sport. However, our sporting organisations in New Zealand are enabling a practice that has been described by researchers from Otago University as "intolerably unfair" - biologically male athletes competing in women's sport.
We are calling on the New Zealand Olympic Committee, Sport New Zealand, and the Minister for Sport Hon Grant Robertson, to put a stop to disadvantaging women and girls by making clear in policy and practice that women/girls and men/boys categories MUST be determined by SEX and not gender identity.
Sport is an important part of life and everyone should have the chance to compete and enjoy the benefits and opportunities of sport. Organising sport by sex ensures a more even playing field for everyone.

My Wife and daughters all played netball, so I’ve watched lots of games. I’ve also played mixed netball, and seen up close the reality of the difference between biological men and women just in this sport. Women deserve their own space to compete.
I teach Thai boxing and competed professionally in both boxing and Thai boxing. I have seen and felt the difference in power and strengrh between men and women. Putting male bodies against female is unfair and in many sports, dangerous.
I would like to see Male, Female, and a new Open (to all) category. I don’t want Trans-Men/Women excluded from sport but it must be fair and therefore based on sex not gender identity. The Female category was introduced because of the obvious disadvantages.
IMO it is unfair for person born as male and having the body structure of a male to sudden be allowed to compete against people born as females and never had the chance to build a similar muscle and bone structure as a male.
As a sportswoman, who competes against the strongest women, it's an anathema to me how we are also expected to compete against men who believe their gender to be female. It is a woman's rights issue for the 21st C. And it's not ok.
A birth certificate tells it all. That is the gender a person was born and the only fair way to allow sport to take place. Male or female as you were born. Another category for those who identify as anything other than that shown on their original birth certificate.
Hold the line; no time for fear; punt the blokes who want to steal from the girls. Ask Raelene Boyle about fairness in sport; and the East Germans were technically women.

I have much aroha for transgender athletes who face so many challenges and barriers in their lives. In this whole debate, we must be trying to figure out who competes against who. Transgender athletes competing in womens' competitions is not the answer.
