Local elections are happening across Britain on 5 May 2022. Thousands of women are mobilising from across the political spectrum, to encourage local election candidates to uphold the Equality Act and support the protected characteristic of Sex in the provision of local services.
Local authorities have begun adopting policies that deny the importance of sex. In doing so, they ignore science and undermine language. Some have spent thousands of pounds on training that misrepresents the law in this area. In schools and in other public spaces, single-sex facilities such as toilets and changing rooms have been replaced with ‘gender-neutral’ ones – which means mixed-sex. Services for vulnerable women, including Rape Crisis have been compromised too. Safeguarding is also being compromised. In schools children are being introduced to the idea that they might have been born in the wrong body. In public libraries, adult material such as ‘drag queen story time’ is being presented to children.
Women Uniting urges you to join our campaign and sign this declaration.
Whether locally and nationally, I support the campaign to:
- Respect women's right to single sex spaces and services
- Prioritise the safeguarding of children
- Prioritise sex over gender in language, law, policy, and regulation.

I feel so uncomfortable using public toilets now. Its just not right and it feels like we are being completely ignored by people in charge.
