The council has finally confirmed the new school will proceed and the site is officially secured. I am exhausted by the long road to get here but I am grateful you refused to give up. We have the result we fought for so just stay alert to ensure the construction …

The aim of this petition is to show that there is demand for a secondary school in the South of Wokingham area.

Wokingham Borough Council has identified a shortfall in places from 2017/18. However, there is already an existing demand for a secondary schoolfrom parents in Arborfield, Finchampstead and Barkham ,who cannot get their preferred choice of school - due to the distance based on 'tie-breaker' criteria. This is resulting in children being allocated a space in a school several miles from where they live- a situation which is not acceptable. This will only get worse when the 3,500 mini-town is built on the Garrison. A new secondary school is desperately needed now and the best way to get it is through a SOW parent led free school bid. Thank you.

Updates

The council remains silent on our request for a new school despite the obvious pressure growing in our neighborhoods. I am exhausted by the constant obstacles but we are continuing to push for a meeting to address these missing spots for our children.

Seeing this grow makes the long hours of research feel worth the effort. It is exhausting work to keep pushing against the council, but your backing proves I am not fighting alone.

I need this school for my two boys - not prepared to be offered my third choice of school, which is the one I probably least want them to go to - but it makes the Council seem they are doing their job in giving parents a choice - they're not really.

This is urgently needed now. The situation is currently bad and will hit crisis point in the next few years. We can't wait for WBC to address the problem once it hits crisis point.

The only reason more people aren't kicking up a stink about this is that many parents are still unaware of the school shortage implications for them, & because so many of us still can't quite believe that the council would be so utterly negligent as to have foreseen the increased demand & failed to act. This is supposed to be a civilised country!

Having taken so long to sort out the mess in primary school places I am shocked to learn that the knock on secondary school place issue has not yet been planned for and resolved. WBC need to start supporting the families in its borough by being a major player in the setting up of this desperately needed new school.

We NEED another school in the area. New builds are increasing without the infrastructure to support the community.

Agree with previous comments, someone should loose their job or position over this - you have to act now, the situation is not going to go away. Well done SOW, however you are.
