This seems like the wrong thing for the Planning Commission to be working on. SSL should be helping business Owners not hurting them.

The main question I always have when reviewing these types of changes is WHY? even if you have people complaining, how many? 20? 50? 100? even if it's 250 people complaining, that is less than 1% of the population. You are going to change/diminish a businesses ability to increase profitability and thus increase your tax revenue because less than 1% of people have an outspoken opinion?

This year has been particularly difficult on businesses and adding more to their burdens with a sign code that will restrict their advertisement seems a poor way to improve economic conditions. Companies spend billions of dollars a year on marketing and branding and this proposed sign code will inhibit what they are able to do, and possibly, render any branding currently in place as non-conforming, putting additional burdens on companies.

This may be one of the most strict sign ordinances I've ever seen. Please do not proceed with this as it will be damaging to business and economic growth in the area.

I'm curious as to why the city council members think it is a great idea to place such an unnecessary and onerous financial burden on small businesses during a worsening pandemic which is putting them in an extremely precarious position with constant worry about being able to stay afloat. Do the city council members realize that the city's own financial fate is tied to that of their local businesses?

We have great signs on our building and lit in our lawn. We want the freedom to choose our own sign and not pay extra money. We want to stand out, not conform to somebody's idea of what they think our sign should be.

This seems like the wrong thing for the Planning Commission to be working on. SSL has plenty of areas that need change and guidance. Businesses have had a hard enough year with out crazy unneccesary sign rules and changes. Let businesses work on bringing in customers and revenue and the planning commission focus on crosswalks, parks, parking etc for all the high density housing we now have here.

As a local business in SSL, I feel that additional involvement and conversation should occur as this ordinance would likely significantly impact businesses with unintended consequences.
