The refreshing coolness of a pool on a hot summer day is a universal pleasure. But for women and girls, a trip to the pool can be marred by basic necessity missing from the bathroom: tampons. This lack of readily-available tampons is not just an inconvenience, it's a barrier to participation, a matter of dignity, and a taxation on and hinderance to the work of female staff.

Periods are unpredictable and can begin suddenly. Without a tampon machine, a woman might miss out on enjoying the pool because she’s unprepared for her period to arrive. Similarly, women who experience unexpected changes in their cycle, or who simply forget to pack tampons, are forced to choose between forgoing a swim or risking an embarrassing accident. This is a choice no one should have to make.

Some might raise concerns about cost or vandalism. However, the cost of a tampon machine is minimal compared to the positive impact it can have. Regarding vandalism, pool facilities already have mechanisms in place to deal with damage to other restrooms amenities. These same measures can be applied to tampon machines.

Furthermore, the lack of a tampon machine unfairly burdens female staff. These women are essential for ensuring the safety of all patrons. Having their period shouldn't prevent them from doing their jobs effectively. The unexpectedness of female cycles can cause discomfort and distraction. By providing tampons, we remove this obstacle and allow female workers to focus on their critical duties without worry. Additionally, the lack of tampons regularly leads patrons to ask female staff to provide them with tampons from their personal supply. It is unjust for female workers to have to pay for these essential supplies—used by patrons—out of their own pockets. This is completely unfair, as their male counterparts obviously do not carry these necessities and thus do not have to pay this tax.

Therefore, the only feasible solution is the installation of a tampon machine. Having a tampon machine in the pool bathroom is not a luxury, it's a necessity. It ensures that patrons and staff have access to a safe and enjoyable experience. It removes an unfair burden from the women who work at the pool and ensures they are able to complete their jobs without distraction. By making this small change, we can ensure that the pool is a place of fun and safety for everyone.
