This letter
is in response to the recent decision to extend the school day in order to make
up for our inclement weather days. We, the students at Jim Hill High School,
believe the decision was made hastily and without regard for all parties
concerned. Many students have after school responsibilities such as jobs,
siblings, and practices that will be impacted if this decision is fully
implemented. Parents will be inconvenienced in terms of transportation, child
care, and their jobs. Academic instructors are put in a corner because they
have other jobs, children, and oftentimes school that will be inadvertently
impacted by this decision. Support staff does not get paid for working for this
extra hour. The question becomes how are other school districts coping with
this state-wide problem?
If you do not agree with the Board's decision join us in the fight against the extra hour!
I can not stay an extra hour do babysitting my baby brothers and sisters while my mother is at work.
