Canada needs to make some informed decisions by consulting with experts. A sound moderator does not make the super quiet “whoosh” sound Hollywood depicts.. This is a legitimate concern for health and safety. Sound Moderators/suppressors/silencers, do not make the report of the gun silent. The average suppression level, according to independent tests done on a variety of commercially available suppressors, is around 30 dB, which is around the same reduction level of typical ear protection gear often used when firing guns. However, for most commercially available fire arms and cartridges, this ends up only reducing the noise level to somewhere in the range of 130-150-ish dB for a supersonic cartridge and 117-130-ish dB for a subsonic cartridge. For reference on just how loud that is, an ambulance or police siren is typically between 100-140 dB.
This is a reasonable step to help protect Canadians health and assist in reducing healthcare costs for related injuries.

They aren't just legal but often required in Europe. The US will likely be lifting what restrictions they have as well. These are hearing safety devices, They don't make guns silent as Hollywood depicts. A suppressed gun is still loud, just not dangerously loud.

Practically every western country does not have any restrictions on sound moderators, even in Europe. They have practically never been used in crime and the idea that only criminals use them is a hollywood fairytale with no basis in reality.

Look at the UK, New Zealand, Denmark, Finland, Sweden, and France. All countries with safe, responsible gun owners, and all allow sound moderators for firearms, as a means of protecting ones personal health. It's our turn too.
