Our Firefighters: being called upon as a safety/medical resource, being active community members at various "Fests" and functions, and educating youth at our local schools. These are just a few of the endless responsibilities found in each SSMFD member - and now there is the possibility of a part of this brotherhood being taken away. Aside from the obvious safety concerns the 25% cut would cause, the strain on other medical services and community resources would increase exponentially. Where you cut funds in one area, the funding will need to increase in another - thus resulting in negative savings. Cutting from a front-line/first-response service that often aids in the prevention, control, and resolution of fire/safety issues is more than counterproductive to the safety of the community. Is Provenzano busy? There may be a position opening up soon ..

You can't put a price on the safety of the public, someone will get hurt, who then wears the blame? I bet council will try and throw it back on the firefighters? Maybe someone from council gets fired with a big fat severance package. All for a preventable issue. What a joke.

The council is being very reckless with the publics safety. Cutting 1/4 of the firefighters is shear stupidity! I know that I will not feel safe if this actually happens. What a disgrace!

Are we getting like the Harper govt. slashing essential services for budgetary reasons? Since that new chief came in everything is in mayhem...wanting to hire firefighters from outside the city when our unemployment is at an all time low, now this. Come on Christian do your job that we elected you to do.

Council, we entrust that you are making the right decisions for the people of Sault Ste. Marie, not so sure on this one. Risking the lives of the people to save a buck?

Our fire services are vital to our community! They do far, far more than fight fires. These cuts will cost lives! Stop the cuts!
