this city needs to give the firemen their say at the council meeting - some new chief from out of town thinks he knows everything about the soo - we need these jobs here esp the way essar steel is going right now too

This is blatant stupidity. Slash firefighters who save lives and property to what... Put more monies in the pockets of politicians. What is next. Cut back city police officers,

It's obvious this new so called Chief was hired to hack and slash jobs but why do it at the expence of the firefighters' and publics safety. It has already been said that the military doesn't send everyone home because war hasn't started. Preparations have to be in place and by cutting jobs is not the answer. I think a vote of nonconfidence should be brought against this Chief. Slash one job instead of twenty five. I certainly hope my house isn't the one on fire and there isn't enough personal on scene to get me out. Nothing to worry about though because this Chief stated that no one dies in fires anymore??? What kind of idiot....I mean Fire Chief would say that ???

As city councillors you should exercise due dillegence and get as much information as possible prior to making a decision as important as this one

As the wife of a Sault Ste. Marie Firefighter, I am appalled at the decision of Mayor and Council to so quickly consider putting a price on the lives of their own community, their property and on a very personal note, the life of my husband and my children's father along with all the other firefighter's families that this proposal will so dramatically affect...!!! Did any of our elected officials even consider listening to both sides first and having an independent study done or is the "word" of one man, who has no ties to our City and doesn't even live here, all that is required to make such an important decision. I truly hope that those so-called educated elected officials are prepared to face the consequences of what this decision could mean in terms of safety and potential loss of property and even worse.

has an independent review been done to warrant this type of drastic cut? I would like to see how the data is interpreted and by whom with what agenda. Is there proof that these cuts would NOT jeopardize public and firefighter safety?

I support ssm firefighters and expect that they should be able to fight fires AND save the people who may be trapped in the burning building
