Mike: Your comment serves only to prove my point of how uninformed people are about the proposed noise ordinance changes. I'm not the only person pushing for this as you suggest in your comment. Contrary to your comment a prominent businessman in the community which owns a good majority of the retail and residential space on Washington St. is also in favor of the proposed change. Why is that? Because he knows it's not going to negatively impact any of those businesses that are already following the current rules and respect the residents who live and spend their money at these businesses. NYC's noise ordinance allows a maximum level of 42dB(A) by any businesses that play music which is taken directly from the guidelines of the Federal Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD). Keep in mind that meter readings are measured outside the business from a minimum distance of 15 feet or from inside an adjoining residential unit. I guess the City of New York and HUD have it all wrong according to you.

I support this petition. SoNo is known not only in the region but across the country. We need to support the area and continually enrich it. Ordinances that may harm prosperity of this district should not be enacted.

I moved to SoNo after 11 years of living in NYC. It's a great town, and has a lot more to offer.

We love visiting SoNo and I'm always saddened to see how many empty storefronts there are and how much potential there is! Let's build up the neighborhood and not tear down what's there.

I live in the neighborhood and oppose the noise ordinance. We need to keep the nightlife!

I lost work due to the current situation with tenants complaining about noise. To impose further sanctions will crush the SoNo nightlife scene and potentially put a few of the bars and restaurants there out of business. Imposing further sanctions via a noise ordinance would be an absolute shame.

It's rediculous someone would rent a space above a venue and then complain about noise. Really?? Maybe a solution would be the bar owners living above their establishments. Either way, nightlife is a huge part of soni culture. Dont kill it with sound ordinance laws!!

I have enjoyed going to many places such as Johnny Utahs and Burger Bar to name a few. The nightlife shouldn't be compromised because people who chose to live there knowing the situation now are complaining.

Agreed, any tenant understands their neighborhood.

The committee has set a public hearing on the two proposed changes for Tuesday, March 21, at 7 p.m., in Room 231 of City Hall, 125 East Ave.

Sono has been a great nightlife/club/restaurant/family fun area of Norwalk for years.. people in the apartments in and around this area should already know that it is a loud area. If they don't like that, there PLENTY of apartments/offices available in the quieter sections of Norwalk. They should not be able to make the clubs turn down their music, etc. it was there first. now where do I sign??

If someone chooses to live in an urban neighborhood with nightlife that's what they sign up for. People don't move to NYC for peace and quiet. Happily signed.

My wife and I own 2 condos. 1 on Water St and the other on Flex Hill. We both lived there for about 5 years (loved walking down to the bars and restaurants) and after we moved to a house we rented them out now for 3-5 years. Most of the people in those condos are commuters and love the night life seen. My wife and I still go down at least once a month to eat or grab drinks.
