Solidarity with Peter Mayo

One of the reasons this country is so messed up is that the most capable people are being replaced by the most incompetent. It's the sole reason Malta will suffer the consequences of a brain drain once again after the demise of the Mintoffian Regime. This country has never really progressed because the population keeps on electing the same regime that claims to be The Labour Party. Sadly few realize that the Labour Party ceased to exist decades ago as soon as Sir Paul Boffa disassociated himself from it simple because he knew he could never see eye to eye with Mr Mintoff's plans to build a totalitarian regime. The current criminal and corrupt regime is the fruit of the Mintoffian regime and nothing more. This country can never recuperate all the brilliant people that emerged over the years because like my friend and mentor Peter, they were swept aside to be replaced by morons! This is one of the reasons why I never wanted to have anything to do with the University of Malta and never will. If I may be so bold to express my personal opinion, had I been in Peter's shoes I would most definitely seek pastures new. This so-called university that clearly discriminates against its own does not deserve such an illustrious figure among its fold of idiots.

Peter Mayo is an inspiring scholar in the domain of adult education research and critical pedagogy and a amiable person and teacher with great influence in the academic world. The university's decision to send him on retirement is incomprehensible, given the many duties he still has to accomplish.

Prof Mayo has been a model to students at UoM in applying what he teaches into practice

It is indeed difficult to understand how the University of Malta can deny an extension of service to Professor Peter Mayo, one of its most outstanding and influential scholars and teachers. This professor combines all the attributes of an excellent academic in his research, widely published scholarship, teaching, mentoring and innovative academic leadership. He has been recognised at the highest international level with the accolade of a UNESCO Chair in Global Adult Education at the University of Malta. I join hundreds of scholars worldwide asking the University of Malta to rethink and rescind any move to deny an extension of service to Professor Mayo, one of its very best scholars.

Prof. Peter Mayo is an important contributor to the development of adult education and lifelong learning globally for many decades. The UNESCO Chair in Global Adult Education at the University of Malta is a signpost for his past, present and future contributions. He was also inducted to the International Adult and Continuing Education Hall of Fame. He is the Editor of CONVERGENCE as the leading journal in adult education, published by the International Council for Adult Education. We trust that Prof. Mayo can continue his work as a member of the University of Malta for many more years to come.

Glad someone is standing up to them as this is happening in other Faculties, and they keep reducing our Ts which are only based on teaching, the rest is ignored!

Peter Mayo is, indeed. an important intellectual voice in the struggle for global justice. He should be re-instated to full professorship.

This is deeply concerning. Anyone with a decade or more of academic teaching experience knows that teaching input can fluctuate dramatically depending on contingencies.
