I strongly support Peter Mayo with academic solidarirty

It came as a shock to me that a highly rated and internationally recognized academic holding the status of Professor should have this status in practical terms reduced on very flimsy grounds. in the case of a Professor's extension of service beyond the age of 65 should never be based on level of administrative contribution but on work related to academia. Prof. Mayo continues to contribute to learning on an international scale and has been a leading light in the field of adult education training and through internationally recognized publications. It behoves the University of Malta to treat its leading academics with dignity and respect and not to humiliate them on some flimsy excuse with their international colleagues. The University may have missed the point that this also raises questions about the very administration of the University of Malta. Professor Godfrey A. Peter is one of the most brilliant, passionate, dedicated and hard working academics I have ever known! He deserves the highest recognition and respect from his own institution; the respect and recognition he enjoys in the international academic community. It would be a pleasure and an honour for any University to have him in its ranks. An institution that does not recognizes this, does not deserve him! Such a pity not to make the most of his talents to the benefit of the University…

It is intolerable that a critical intellectual in high standing should be treated this way.

Peter is one of the leading critical educators and adult educators in the world.

Universities care firstly about profit and secondly about the processes and people that generate most profit.

Academic colleagues that are renowned scholars should be given the scope and space to offer their expertise to benefit the pool of knowledge that will benefit generations of scholars from the present to the future.

This is a shameful decision that runs against the good of students and the educational world. I join the appeal to Professor Alfred Vella to please revoke the decision.

Peter Mayo has long been a leader in our field of Adult Education. Highly respected and very much needed in this field, this leading scholar needs to be kept on so he can continue building this vital field of research and practice.

When the message is difficult to hear, weak societies pretend it is not there. Just societies take action!

Peter Mayo has made important contributions to Adult Education worldwide, is a leader in the field and has influenced many. I urge the University of Malta to reconsider their action.

I strongly support Peter Mayo and hope that the University of Malta will respond to this petition.

Peter May is a distinguished scholar in adult education who has made a remarkable contribution to the understanding adult learning with philosophical, political, social focuses. I thank Peter to have orientated attention to Gramsci, Freire with a quality narrative full of humanism and care.

Professor Mayo's contributions to the field of Adult Learning and Education are immense. I hope leaders at the U of Malta will reconsider what appears to be a ill-conceived, unjust decision and take steps to resolve matters so Peter can resume his important work.
