Let me insert my few words in edgeways. I am flattered by the comments here. I would gladly have retired at 65 had this been mandatory. After all we academics are not a special breed but members of a myriad occupational groups. So I would accept mandatory retirement even though I love teaching. There are many young scholars waiting for their chance in a country with only one public university. So i accept that point.The trouble is that retirement for academics at the University of Malta is not mandatory and is, as a dear friend aptly put it, very much " ad hominem". Two weights and two measures. Some are allowed to go on till late 70s or possibly early 80s. This is what hurts. One can freely compare my track record to that of some in the latter categories. Just saying... Also I have to take up the part-time post because of my commitment to the UNESCO Chair for which I am responsible. I have to coordinate and teach, and supervise, a brand new online MA in Adult Education as an integral part of the UNESCO Chair. All this in addition to teaching 25 hour seminar in Critical Pedagogy in the MA in Social Practice Arts and Critical Education and organise singlehandedly the Malta semester of the International Erasmus Mundus Master in Education in Museums and Heritage. These are commitments I have to honour besides theses supervision at Master's and PhD levels. All on half load at less than half pay of a full Professor salary.

This is disgraceful. Peter Mayo is a marvellous Professor and researcher . Attending his classes made me more interested in research and social change . I stand against this decision as an International and Erasmus student.

This is so unfair towards this great scholar!! We need more like him not less!!

Not too many professors in Europe and world-wide can get the UNESCO Chair in Global Adult Education. He was inducted in the International Adult and Continuing Hall of Fame. At least such recognitions of the scientific work and world-wide appreciation of Professor Peter Mayo should be arguments for the University of Malta to offer him a life-long university chair, which brings in addition a lot of points to the university in the international rankings! I can testify the generosity of Prof. Peter Mayo in supporting younger scholars internationally, and I am so grateful for the materials and advices, for the kind support he was offering me over the years! His recommendations were opening doors to young scholars worldwide, as his professional judgements are great guarantees to publishing companies, to internationally respected scientific bodies. I hope that the University of Malta will reconsider its judgement. Each university would be happy to list professors with such impressive professional portfolio. Therefore, Prof. Mayo was guest professor in so many universities world-wide. He was proudly representing University of Malta, and everybody knows how attached he is to his country and university!

Peter Mayo is one of the greatest thinkers in Adult Education and worldwide recognised and admired.

We share the initiative to call for the restoration of the position of this distinguished scholar at Malta. We trust the global adult education dialogues still need his authoritative contributions, especially in the light of the Unprecedented resurgence neo-liberalism and ultraconservative discourse that has come to permeate institutions of higher education.

Peter has too much to give to be jettisoned . Warmly regarded in the field

Peter Mayo has brought honor and visibility to his university. For his widely acknowledged work he was inducted into the International Adult Education Hall of Fame. To be eligible for induction into the Hall of Fame, a person must be eminently distinguished in the profession, shall have brought honor or distinction, and shall have contributed to the heritage of adult and continuing education. The University of Malta should be proud to have such an internationally respected scholar as a member.

We support the initiative.

A person of Professor Mayo's international stature needs undoubtedly to be kept on as Professor for some more years. I hope my old Alma Mater will do the right thing.
