NASW has sucked for decades, but this was the worst idea ever. That's not to say that a lot of not-for-profits and settlement houses won't have their hands out for the blood money.

I'm disappointed in this decision and hope you will allow dialogue that represents the vast majority of Social Worker's who want to dismantle these biased systems. Let us do what we are already doing

Police are beyond reform and the NASW should not endorse that social workers be complicit to systems of oppression. We have to reenvision our world, and stop relying on the systems that harm us to lead us to liberation.

Facilitating abuse by making it more tolerable to the public is facilitating abuse. Police as we know it must go and social workers must not comply with them until Black people and poor people are safe from their violence.

As social workers, we must not simply advocate for people to function in existing systems. We must question those systems and the legacy of white supremacy they uphold. As social workers who see people in the context of the environment, we must call to defund the police.

Having social workers be involved in the police reformation policy is antithetical to the NASW Code of Ethics, its Principles and Values due to the overwhelming conflict of interest between our profession and racist policeman. The latter are parts of racist organizations that have infiltrated the police department nationwide and seek to advance their cause of harming, killing, harrassing, overpolicing, unjustly incarcerating, and terrorizing communities of color-namely Black and Brown. A Black police officer was just fired over stopping a chokehold of a White police officer. What if this had been a social worker? Even with the current civil unrests over police brutality/murders, that White officer disregarded the outcries and justified himself to practice illegal chokeholds. I do not support the administration's police reform policy. Please escalate this petition of those who oppose the policy expeditiously. Thank you!

This should not be signed into Executive order. I am disappointed in the NASW's approval of such a policing and dangerous order. It truly reflects the disparity between those on top and those who are om the ground doing the deep work with those who need it.

American policing is an oppressive system and working in tandem with them means we are assisting in that oppression. The code of ethics by this very organization suggests that we must work to dismantle systems that cause harm to others and call out injustice. How can we expect our field to do this effectively if our own organizations do not follow their code of ethics?

inserting ourselves as a cog in a broken system only co-signs on oppression and perpetuation of -isms. not only a full re-structuring, but a re-imagination of these systems is necessary. a system founded on racist principles will never transcend that foundation. we must do better. i expect the NASW to follow the same Code i do, and we cannot be complicit in this.

Core social work values and principles support abolishing the prison industrial complex, not participating in it. Supporting this executive order is an absolute disgrace and embarrassment to this profession which already has a history of elitism and oppression. We must change our course for the better and be on the right side of history. NASW: Rescind your statement of support. Do better.

This is a time to be radically anti-racist and to seriously look at SWers roles in perpetuating violence toward black and brown and indigenous families. We have been complicit - and we are called, by our own code of ethics, to dismantle these systems and stop our participation in harmful practices.
