Any educational policy must be discussed by and approved by all stakeholders before being considered for board approval. Students have already experienced disruptions to learning due to a global pandemic and to institute such a drastic change without getting input from students, teachers and each school’s administrative and guidance team is truly unacceptable!

I graduated SMHS last year. It's so bad for learning because of the breaks and condensing the material to fit into a quarter. AP classes are already hard enough when the classes are spread out over an entire year. Condensing them into half a year with a break in between will make them exponentially more difficult.

Regular school for those students and faculty who desire; PPE for teachers. Reopen with these precautions but bring back a full education for our students.

Any student who does not want to be on campus should have the ucscout option facilitated by a teacher from district who also cannot return to campus.
That’s the option missing from the discussion. I agree with the teachers union that the blended model is not optimal and has high execution risk. Back to school in the fall with screening and contact tracing.

Very difficult for my senior taking 3 AP courses which will need continuity. Also, need to spend additional time in Q3 reviewing Q1 material and then cramming another 18 weeks into 9 weeks is ludicrous.

I sent a letter already to the board members as well against a quarter schedule. This is a primarily a droplet virus. As long as kids and staff do not go to school sick, social distance, wear a mask ( No N95 required) and frequently wash hands- the risk is very low.
Distancing Kids at lunch will be the hardest part in my opinion. I work at Kaiser clinic and follow these guidelines without fear.

I will have two high schoolers this fall. This quarter system change doesn’t make sense for anyone. I can’t imagine that the teachers will like this either.

Too much content crammed into a 9 week quarter class, why not proceed with a semester like Serra High School is proposing Where certain cohort groups attend classes Monday Wednesday Friday and are online Tuesday Thursdays and then the following week it flip-flops where they are online Monday Wednesday Friday and attend classes in person Tuesday Thursday. Other cohort groups are on the opposite schedule.

Please do not offer classes for kids have to cram to learn material in nine weeks. I am on the quarter system in college and it is fast paced and challenging. This is not a quick fix environment Option for high school students.

This shift lacks common sense. Given the current landscape, the bias should be to only change what is needed. Focus on safety protocols, and decisions around on-campus vs online learning. This shift is unfair to ask of your teachers. Developing adequate material for online learning alone will require a tremendous amount of time. Now you want teachers to change lesson plans and develop material for a 9 week course? The quality of instruction and learning, will no doubt suffer with this revision. Students will be "cramming" and not learning. This proposal adds stress to an already stressful situation.

As a student myself this really makes me anxious. I feel like this is setting the students up to fail by making teachers have to teach twice as fast making it harder for students to retain information.

Parent of 2 SMHS students. This plan will not benefit any of the students or the teachers/staff at SMHS. Please reconsider this proposal.
