Please see lengthy email sent to Dr Skelly and Board detailing all of the reasons that a quarter system is a dis-service to teachers and students, and sets the students up for failure. It is educator’s responsibility to put students in a position to be successful, yet you are placing them in a position of failure.

I am against the quarter system proposal. Moving to quarters adds a massively disruptive, non-sensical change on top of a bunch of other necessary changes. Please reconsider!

I do not see the educational benefits the way this quarter system is being proposed. It is not in the best interest for the students.

The quarter system is designed for social distancing instead of targeting learning and psychosocial issues the pandemic has caused in our students.

This is terrible for kids with learning disabilities- speeding up the learning by 2x is rude to students and teachers

I am against the details of the proposal. Please include the parents feedback to revise the plan.

I agree with the arguments in the petition. As a psychologist I would reinforce that routine and stability provides comfort and this plan will provide instability fluctuation and change. Thanks.

Please use an alternating day schedule (A&B) as before to maintain a semester schedule, adjusted for the students coming in rotating groups. Also, the current plan with such short days really compromises electives & extracurricular activities, please try to preserve students abilities to participate in both!

I am against the quarter system implementation. Too much change adjusting to online and then for it to be accelerated?

The biggest concern i have with the quarter system is the learning loss. With the proposed breaks between the subjects, continuity and retaining the learning will be a challenge for the kids. The back to school committee should focus on how best to address DL in case on campus learning is not possible and how best to deliver DL in the current format. They should not be looking to use current high school kids as guniea pigs for experimental learning. This will affect their future immensely.

The biggest fail of the distance learning our children received this Spring was the lack of synchronous learning. This "quarter" system is even more disjointed and will cause greater confusion and stress for both teachers and students.

To change to a quarter system now it’s to fuel the fire for our students. I totally understand and think it’s critical to protect our teachers and staff and SMHS. Please instead put the effort towards virtual classes that can be easily put in place should COVID or any other dangers make in person schooling not possible. What would happen if school needs to close with the quarter system? Then there is no plan B. If a quarter system is to prefer for our students future please wait until our academic community is more balanced and safe. This is not the time to change the academic approach is such a drastic way. Our community has gone through too much already. Thank you!

As the parent of a senior and a junior at AHS, both with multiple AP classes, I just don’t see how this will work.

I am a rising junior and I'm not a huge fan of the quarter system. I feel like the classes will be taught at a much faster pace than I am comfortable with, especially the AP classes that I will be taking. This is such a critical year for me and I would prefer maintaining the regular 1-7 Block schedule and moving to Distance Learning if there is another Covid-19 breakout.

I think the quarter system for Aragon High School is not a good idea. Please terminate energy directed at this idea and spend it toward online education preparation for the fall semester.

There's no need to change instruction SO drastically. COVID itself is enough of a disruption. Focus on safety at school, and otherwise effective instruction in all of its forms. Continuity is key.

Create semester-long curriculum 100% online and then make plans to get students on campus as much as possible which will change as we approach Aug and move through the semester. Moving to a quarter system is an enormous lift for teachers without clear benefit.
