I am concerned about having an accelerated learning program without teacher's full support. This puts the kids' education at high risk. If the program fails, the teachers would blame the Board, and the Board would the teachers. Either way, the people who suffer would be the kids.

I am against the quarter system. It would be hard for students with a 504 plan to keep up

I think this approach had chosen the worst of all worlds and doesn't seem to be following best practices from other districts

I strongly believe that the quarter system proposal for SMUHSD would be a disservice to both students and teachers. Please vote NO on the proposal!

Please let our young people put their lives back together. Our fear is damaging an entire generation with unknown negative consequences for their mental health, development, and academic progress.

I believe this will be better for the students , compared to sending them back might increase the risk of a second or even third wave.

Please provide examples of high schools that have successfully implemented the proposed quarter system. How did they address the AP challenges?

crash-course style learning with a quarter gap is not a good way to school students. i would rather continue distant learning than do this quarter system just to bring students back on campus. i believe there must be a better alternative.

I vote against a Quarter School System for the fall! We are going through a whole lot as it is right now! We do not need to implement anything else!

As a parent of a BHS student and Aragon grad, I highly urge you not approve the quarter system. Students will not be learning, they will be cramming and forgetting. This proposal is unacceptable on so many levels - you've forgotten mental health, Special Ed, Language Learners, and lower performing students. Do the right thing! Listen to your teachers!

The quarter system would just stress out students and teachers through a compressed, accelerated and isolated schedule. I really don't think anyone would be able to learn or teach anything properly at this rate. I totally agree that we have to implement certain health guidelines, but I don't think this is the time to make any more drastic changes to our lives. I think we can all agree we really don’t need more of that what with the game of Jumanji our lives have become.

I realize that the task of finding a solution for our educational system in this pandemic is an extremely difficult task, and will not please everyone. BUT please, keep our seniors in mind when making any decisions! The quarter based system would be extremely difficult for all students, at any grade level, for the reasons mentioned above. However, it will be even more difficult for our senior students, who will be completing college applications and will be writing out essays. Additionally, many of them, are also taking AP classes, which means an even more demanding schedule for these students. And every family faces unique set of challenges that may make learning even more difficult this year. So please take the seniors into serious consideration. Even if the decision is made to switch to a quarter based system, please be creative and consider an alternative solution for our seniors. And please keep in mind how they will fare compared to senior students from other school districts who may not be on a demanding, if not impossible quarter system. I hope that the teachers of senior classes will advocate for what is best for our seniors this year. Thank you.
