I was extremely disappointed that the residents were not consulted about this decision. I had read in the budget that the plan was to repair/ replace the grass in that area. This entire area which was previously utilized by many residents who have didficulties walking on the sand can no longer be utilized by those residents. This should have been discussed and put to a vote prior to the change as many residents are disappointed in the new aesthetic as well as the lack of accessibility for handicap residents.

The area need to be brought back to grass for all of the above reasons. Sod would be a beautiful option. Who made this decision anyway? And why wasn't this brought to all of our attention before it was changed?

The sand over the concrete curb will be worn down over time and the concrete will blend in with the sand color. This will be hazardous to all but especially to our young and elderly residents. The sand is inconvenient and brings a level of difficulty to the area.

On Friday of this week I had knee surgery, I was lucky enough to get out to hear the music last night. I found it appalling that the beach was almost impossible to navigate. I was using a cane, however I cannot even imagine what it would be like for somebody needing to use a wheelchair or crutches. I cannot even imagine what a navigational nightmare this sand is going to create for people with strollers, wheelchairs, crutches, etc. It was a selfish and thoughtless act to place sand all around what was a very nice grassy area. Senior citizens are going to have a very hard time navigating this as well. In addition without creating wells around the tree bases, you can be certain that these trees will die in short order and there will be no longer any shade to sit under. In addition, it's most unpleasant to eat your picnic lunch on the sand, I have lived in Smokerise since 1984, I cannot believe somebody would make a decision like this to alter the beach so dramatically without consulting the majority of residents it was a selfish and thoughtless act and it needs to be remedied immediately

The grass area has served as a picnic area since my family moved here 40 years ago and has been a great asset to the beach. In addition to difficulties for strollers handicapped and elderly, food and garbage in this area will attract more bugs and animals. Please replace with sod.

I visited in April and loved the easily maneuvered
grassy areas that were so naturally beautiful and user friendly . It's sad to hear about the major mistake of covering the area with sand !

Sadly, I witnessed a few of our elderly residents try to navigate their way across the picnic area to no avail, they sat on the wall discussing their disappointment and then they left. This decision has alienated the handicap, and families with strollers. This surface needs to be removed ASAP

very upset about the sand where the grass was. They should have sent something out letting us know they were putting it down. Sod would have been perfect to put down. It was very hard for some older people and moms with strollers to get through the area. We need this to be changed

Please bring back the grass by the picnic table area. Last night one of my relatives tripped over a rock that was covered with sand and as a result swisted and cut her ankle. This was a poorly planned and executed action.

The sand in the picnic area is totally unacceptable. It is not user-friendly, functional or handicap accessible (not to mention strollers and kid-friendly) and it is an aesthetics nightmare!
