This is important!!

Raindrops register at 40dB, normal conversation around 50 dB, busy city traffic registers around 85dB. If a police officer raises their voice in front of a music venue will they be fined as well? Should citizens file complaints against city buses or landscape crews operating mowers and blowers around 90dB? These dB level restrictions are completely ridiculous and unenforcable creating a huge burden on enforcement because whoever wrote the bill has no idea what DBc actually means or where sound pressure levels of normal conversation are. People on the patios of resaurants will have to be constantly hushed or the management risks a fine; unacceptable and ignorantly written bill to say the least.

So during the day, sound coming out of the bar/venue must be less than that on the street? That is very sensible.... That was sarcasm if it was not obvious. This bill needs to be killed.

HB227 sounds horrible and should be silenced!

This is anti-business and lacks common sense. It seems to be a no-brainer to measure noise at the location of the complaint not the source otherwise someone in Waipahu could complain about noise in Waikiki. Furthermore, every single establishment located within the urban Honolulu would be in violation including ordinary business such as restaurants with TVs, and retail shops with the radio on. It seems discriminatory. If they are really worried about noise they should look to ridiculously loud motorcycles, mopeds, and street cars and do something to protect us from these obscene decibel levels.

Let's just put a ban on laughter, live music, and fun....

Junk bill. Does the public get to fine the Legislature if street noise levels rise above 60dB during normal operations? New source of revenue, just station a cop outside Capitol building & write a ticket every 5 minutes if street noise is above the limit.

We need to make a clear message to the anti-nightlife crusaders in Chinatown. We will never go away. We will be singing and having fun for generations to come. I hear Mililani is nice and quiet.
