South Hitchin 20mph Zone

My daughter is going to St Andrews Primary school. This road needs to be much safer for all the children going to school, nursery and outside school club (playAloud). This road can very dangerous especially around school pick up and drop off.

Better to do this before, rather than after, an accident occurs. And how much time would really be lost by a 20mph limit for such a short distance?

A difficult road for children to cross safely particularly as there is no longer a school-crossing patrol person at school arrival/leaving times - 20mph limit makes perfect sense.

This is very much needed. I am a resident of BL and cars regularly speed down this road, particularly when driving downhill to reach the junction. Because the road is double parked it is very easy for children to step immediately into the road without drivers having any visibility. I was hit by a car driving at speed when putting my child in the car (standing roadside) and the police were uninterested. A zebra crossing at the top of the hill in front of the school would also be a huge help.

Vital for a street with a school. I would also campaign for a pedestrian crossing!

It is a narrow street with car parked on both sides sometimes, so it can be a tricky place for both cars and pedestrians. Absolutely yes for slowing down!

I live on Benslow Lane and commute to work on foot. This speed limit should be enforced.

This is a narrow road with a school, drivers should not be speeding increasing pedestrian fear and intimidation.

Reduce speed limit to 20mph

This is long overdue, I have a child at school on Benslow & 3 yrs ago she was very nearly hit by a speeding driver outside the school when running towards the (then) Lollipop man.

It is vital that cars slow down on these roads before an accident occurs and the action is then reactive. Prevention is far better than cure.

Needed doing for years , no brainer when there’s a School up there

Would be great to see cars slowing down in Benslow Lane and surrounding residential roads. I regularly witness cars speeding in BL well over the current 30 MPH speed limit

It feels safer cycling in areas in Hitchin where the 20 mph limit is in place.

Too much speeding and unsafe driving day and night around this area of Hitchin.

I thoroughly support this petition and would like to see more 20mph zones in Hitchin, particularly around schools. Purwell Primary School is on a bus route and a 20mph would really help to keep children crossing the road safe.

I think the 20mph zones have slowed the majority of traffic down, and now its time to roll them out across the residential areas of Hitchin, not solely around schools, as it would not only improve road safety generally but also encourage people to adopt more sustainable means of travel like cycling for short everyday journeys
