South Hitchin 20mph Zone

I agree with this proposal, although I think it should form part of a much larger 20mph zone which would include an extension of the 20mph zone through the market square into Bridge Street. Unfortunately a drawback with 20mph zones is that motorists accelerate heavily when leaving the zone, this makes Bridge street noisy and dangerous

As a regular cyclist in this area (aged 84) I am often alarmed by the heavy lorries that tear along our roads, and other speed-happy drivers. There are many children about in this residential area, and 20mph would be much safer.

Walsworth Road and Verulam Road should be included. Verulam Road is plagued by heavily laden lorries - scrap metal - moving at speed.

Agree with all, tho it means me not belting down Benslow on my bike, it means safer streets.

Although there are plenty of drivers who drive at well--over 30mph in the north Hitchin 20mph zone, there are plenty who observe the 20mph limit. The police don't enforce it, but where we are is a start.

Defo think we need more 20 mph or one way roads!

I support a 20mph speed limit in residential and retail areas of Hitchin.

Needs to happen especially with two schools nearby. Standard fayre cities such as London and Bristol. No more procrastination! Michael O’Donnell

I live on the Avenue and almost daily see cars driven dangerously up and down the road. Speed is often a factor. Children attending 5 local schools cross the road daily and high car speeds put them at risk.

Having lived on the lane for over 30 years and experienced two parked cars being written off due to speeding vehicles, I feel the traffic calming measures we were promised when the new houses were built are long overdue, A 20mph limit is a good place to start.

20 mph zones save lives!

Parking on both sides of the road obscures visibility of children going to and from school - a 20 mph speed limit would reduce risk and may prevent more serious injury.

I find it very dangerous and frightening to get across the road on my Electric Scooter and Walking Aid

20mph is plenty for a school road

St. Andrews School is on Benslow Lane which has heavy pupil and parent foot traffic - not to mention several small children and animals live on the Lane - there are far too many idiots speeding up and down.

On numerous occasions I have witnessed cars speeding along when taking / collecting my child to and from St Andrews School

Benslow Lane is a cul de sac serving hundreds of residents, hospital, school, residential homes etc. And this means that there is a lot of traffic. The road is narrow and includes a steep incline which encourages speeding. Some kind of traffic calming is essential if there is not to be a serious accident.
