South Hitchin 20mph Zone

The amount of traffic cutting through both these roads has. increased in recent years. With that comes an increase in people driving too fast. I see it every day. 20mph would be a great idea along with other traffic calming measures.

Great idea. So many school children cross those roads especially using the joining paths so can’t always be seen by drivers until quite late when they exit them.

A very good idea and key to improving safety for children.

Very sensible idea. Too many cars bomb up and down these roads (especially the Avenue) when, with cars parked, the space is too tight for 30mph.

Good initiative, one the County Council must endorse

As a local resident and parent I have witnessed and observed cars regularly driving excessively fast up and down this road. I would welcome the 20mph speed limit. Additionally I would push for consideration for a zebra crossing to be installed outside the school between Burton Path and Benslow Lane.

I feel it is my duty to make Hitchin safe for everyone. This is our Hitchin!

Cars (perhaps visiting Pinehill - who don’t know the road) often travel at unacceptably fast speeds past St Andrews School. It would benefit the safety of everyone who uses the road if a 20mph speed limit was introduced.

I live on Chiltern Road and support a lower speed limit - I believe it would help to make these roads safer.

Cars regularly race up Benslow Lane and past the school, exacerbated by the single lane caused by parked cars at the bottom of the road. There is no safe place for children to cross and is a very dangerous place for young children to cross.

No question Benslow Lane should be 20mph

I live in Benslow Rise and my children attend At Andrew's school. I have often seen cars driving too fast past the school, which is dangerous for young children, especially as there is no longer a crossing patrol.

Due to the number of cars that are parked in these roads especially during school drop off and pick up, I feel it is essential that the speed limit be dropped. Children are crossing during this time and anyone going fast would never see them.
