Please enforce this speed limit ASAP

The Avenue is used as a high speed cut though which is a continued danger to all the children crossing to go to St. Andrews and the girls school.

Make these roads safer for children, commuters and residents to cross.

As more and more people Park on The Avenue for school and nursery pick up and drops offs, it's an accident waiting to happen. As cars turn the corner at the postbox going towards Wymondly Road they put their foot down reaching max speed just at the intersection of the 2 cut through paths where school children are crossing. Very dangerous.

This would make a huge and necessary difference to the safety of this area.

Cars are regularly using the Avenue and Chiltern Road to avoid the speed bumps on Highbury Road and we regularly see/hear vehicles speeding on these roads

There is extremely high child and other pedestrian footfall attempting to cross these roads due to the proximity to a number of primary and secondary schools. It is unsafe to cross The Avenue in any place due to the poor visibility owing to cars parked on both sides of the road, and the use of this road and Chiltern Road as rat runs. Measures, including 20mph speed limit and safe crossing places, must be introduced before somebody is injured.

This should include Walsworth Road - traffic calming methods should be introduced

I wholeheartedly support this petition. Living on the avenue we notice cars speeding all the time. With parked cars on both sides and a single lane in the middle it's already rather narrow. Add in busy school times and high density of children crossing erratically and it is worrying. 20mph would be a welcome change for the better.

I do not agree with the installation of speed bumps or flashing lights, but these roads are used as a ‘rat runs’ and I have witnessed many a near miss due to excessive speeding.

All residential roads should have a 20mph speed limit to preserve life in the event of a pedestrian collision.

This is a matter of urgency, as a resident of Chiltern Road it's upsetting that I don't feel that my children are safe walking along our pavements or playing out in the front garden. Please act to make this vital change asap.

This measure is much needed as our residential road is plagued by speeding cars with no regard to safety. We have had one car written off on our drive and lost several wing mirrors! We cross in front of our road with great care and dare not acquire a pet as neighbours have had theirs run over.

My daughter witnessed a young school girl knocked down by a car (she broke her ankle) and I witnessed a speeding car hit and kill my neighbour’s cat.

I fully support this proposed change in the speed limit for Hitchin's residential streets. As a resident I am regularly surprised by the speed motorists drive at along our streets.

Long overdue, previous efforts from CAFRA (Chiltern Road, The Avenue, The Finches Residents' Association) not implemented except traffic calming measures at top/bottom of Avenue which council said had been built at wrong height, so time to revisit

Chiltern Road, with its steep hill, trees in the road and 90 degree blind bend, is used as a 'rat run' and traffic travels much too fast for the road conditions.

Fully support this initiative. There are so many schools in the area and children who use these roads to walk home. We have also lost a pet to a speeding driver. These roads are used as short cuts especially by speeding taxi drivers who are keen to get to the next job. The bend at the top of Chiltern Road is particularly perilouswhereni have witnessed many near misses. Speed control would be welcomed

Chiltern Rd and The Avenue are used as a short cut to avoid the speed bumps on Highbury Rd. because the roads are narrow cars speed on both to try and avoid having to give way. Given the proximity of local schools many children are crossing these roads so the current situation presents a clear danger to them all as well as other vehicles.

I agree that cars really speed up Chiltern Rd. it’s dangerous, particularly because there are families with small children and animals. A 20mph would make a significant difference to safety.
